Andre Perry, a New Orleans education consultant, said he was shocked on Sunday (Jan. 31) afternoon when he noticed that his 5-year-old son had caught a necklace of Mardi Gras beads studded with plastic Confederate flags, thrown from a float in the Krewe of Carrollton parade.
"When I noticed what he caught," Perry wrote in a text message, "I took them away from him."
Perry, who is African-American, said that he later did his best to help his son understand the implications of the symbol. He also posted a photo of the beads on his social media account, which attracted a flurry of sympathetic responses.
Perry said that he and his son were watching the parade from the Gallier Hall stands, at the invitation of the mayor's office. He suspects that since the beads were tossed at the place where Mayor Mitch Landrieu, who was not present, often greets parades, the gesture may have been a comment on the mayor's proposal to remove Confederate monuments from the New Orleans landscape.

"I want this to be a place where he is welcome," he said. "But they're throwing hate at us."

Who cares anymore?
Day time and night time parades have a distinctly different ambiance...location of the parade matters also. Carrollton, where this Krewe is from is an uptown neighborhood.
“...did his best to help his son understand the implications of the symbol...”
Something tells me he may not fully understand the implications of the symbol himself...especially to New Orleans.
The irony is that this dope would be proud for his son to get coconuts from the black-face painted zulus. Still, he doesn’t seem to get the idea that Mardi Gras has always been politicially incorrect, and that much of the fun of carnival being able to laugh at ourselves.
The ten dollar bill had "Dix" on it and was called a Dixie.
Where’s the Huge Manatee when you need it?
I call fake, look at those, they look old, really old - my bet is the guy had them and brought them with him.
Take him to a gay pride parade next and see what he catches there.

They are in an old town that was a huge part of the civil war, and that is a historical battle flag that flew in that town. I hate PC cry baby morons

Those flags would break if this was thrown. He brought them with him to snag some victim cred - valuable currency in the whingy world of leftwing identity politics.
If the kid caught some Confederate flag panties, then he would really have something.
Hey Andre, by you denying the Confederate Flag, all things to do with the Civil War, moving graves, etc. then we must deny slavery ever existed........so what’s your problem?????:Your kid is gonna turn out real good......sarc
Took his kyd to see some tytties, and he saw the boogieman instead, oh my!
Yeah - they both look like they’re terrified in that pic.
