As the Iowa caucus results rolled in Monday night, the wheels were surely turning in the minds of editors at the New York Daily News. Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump â the local entry and a favorite tabloid target â was losing to Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. Which way to go with Tuesday's cover?
There were so many options. "Iowans fire The Donald"? Nah. A "you're fired" joke is too predictable. "Trump is a loser?" It would've just been white noise. Too many people were already turning Trump's favorite insult around on Twitter.
Instead, the Daily News went with a running theme: "Dead clown walking" â a sequel to "Clown runs for prez" (June 17) and "Insane clown posse" (Jan. 21). Actually, it goes back further than that â to "Sideshow Don" (April 11, 2011), when Trump was toying with the idea of a 2012 White House bid.

While not over 50% crony capitalism was sent a message of disapproval and 73% of Iowa voters opposed Trump.
The New York Doily. The same paper that flipped the bird to Cruz? New York values indeed.
Trump can’t pull a GOTV organization out of thin air. That takes money, which he hadn’t been willing to spend, and time, which he doesn’t have. At best he’s behind and playing catch up. Maybe he can hire someone who knows how to start off Huck’s team.
This is a worthless Media Event not worthy of political weight.
Washington Post (one leftist) reporting on New York Daily News (another media editorializing on its headlines) and we are posting it for conservative website analysis? I don’t think so. This is of no importance.
Disclaimer, this means nothing to Trump and his chances and I am a Cruz supporter.
You can make of it what you like. I made it my desktop image.
YO-YO at reply 22 did me better....
I understand. I just wish we could have a more serious and less acrimonious analysis and I have to make those comments beginning with the guy I don’t support if I want to make a serious contribution.
Dance Moms..
Measuring themselves by themselves, they commit grave errors.
I agree. In it’s early days, maybe this was a good system. Now it’s just a hotbed for dirty dealing. The GOP is using it to it’s advantage. We should realize that Trump is doing this on his own. He isn’t beholden to any donors. By the same token, he isn’t beholden to a bunch of pansies that won’t stand up for him either. He didn’t get to be a billionaire by knowingly backing losing propositions. He might just decide that America’s dumbed down public is just that. I had decided that same thing until Trump came along. I’ll vote Republican of course because the devil you know is always better. And I sure do know them.
In the case of Trump, with his full on insults including calling people clowns, he practically begs for this kind of analysis. I don’t see why he should be treated differently. In fact it would be remiss considering he wants to be in The Oval Office.
Hopefully next time around there won’t be such a poor candidate who lowers the discussion.
Speaking of which, has Cruz been given Secret Service protection yet?
Only one person controls Secret Service and that is Ted Cruz who has to request it if he wants it. If he hasn’t asked for it, then no story.
Coonsider the source.
Hope you guys are happy with Rubio - that’s exactly who you’re going to end up with.
You honestly think the hard hits have even begun for Cruz? Other than his own shooting himself in the foot moments - and you guys fall for the crap over and over -
He lost Iowa for goodness sakes! talk about overreaction!
.
My bad.

There are way more body guards in DC than there are bodies to guard.
Someone posted this earlier today, which sums it up precisely.
Iowa was a three way tie. Cruz got 8 delegates, Trump 7 and Rubio got 7.
Cruz didnât win, and Trump nor Rubio lost. It was a tie. And I see this as very reflective of the current state of the GOP.
Trump pulled roughly 1/3 of the GOP with mostly anti-establishment voters.
Cruz pulled roughly 1/3 with conservatives
Rubio pulled the establishment voters.

That could be argued. I will say that Cruz did win the point total, and if it were Trump I wouldn’t want someone trying to downplay his victory.
There are some things I didn’t like about Ted’s tactics.
I don’t believe you have to be upset your guy lost to make this observation.
I have addressed the delegate totals, so I’m no different than you in that.
This liberal rag is getting way too much credit around here.
It seems that may be the case. We’ll have to wait and see.
