As the first 2016 nominating votes near, Donald Trump's strength as GOP frontrunner seems only to grow - nationally and in Iowa, where he's led in five of the last six state polls. But before the Trump freight train gets too far down the tracks, here's a word to the wise: Don't count out Ted Cruz, especially in the Hawkeye State.
The Texas senator has one big advantage over Trump, he occupies the social conservative lane in the GOP primary field, and that lane tends to over perform in Iowa.

Consider the 2008 and 2012 Iowa Republican caucuses. In both years, the social conservative candidate won the state - former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum - and both men got a big bump in the final tally compared to polls.
Going into the 2008 caucuses, Huckabee led Mitt Romney by about 3 points - 29.7 percent to 26.7 percent - but in the final results Huckabee won by more than 9 points, 34.4 percent to 25.2 percent....

Why would anyone count Cruz out; just because he is behind in every poll doesn’t mean he will lose.
If Rubi wasn’t in the race, it would be a landslide for Cruz. and to be fair, if Cruz wasn’t in he race, Rubio would win easily over Trump. Don’t thnk many voters have Trump aas their second choice.
As much of a political junkie as I am (and as most of you are,) I’ve had about enough of Iowa, front and center, for the last few months. I will be happy when only a carcass remains of the caucus.
I would pay good money to see that stupid smirk on Cruzâs face after getting his ass kicked down to third or fourth
#groundgamematters
What will the Trumpbots do if their guy loses?
And Huckabee and Santorum went nowhere from there. Iowa really isn’t that important.

Be Thankful that he is kicking ass in NH and everywhere else...
I believe we will have our candidate by March 16th. I think Democrats are the ones that will be fighting until Summer.
“Door is open for a horrific Rubio surprise.”
It is. The near run loss for Willard tells me that an insipid, fraudulent, unlikable establishment guy could pull an upset. Rubio is much less repugnant than Willard, and even steps into modest likability.
So I hear they are using a Bill Gates Microsoft app to “count” the votes. Wouldn’t it be great if someone caught them (if/when they try) digitally altering the count?
Ultra-liberal Bill Gates. Oh yeah, real trustworthy.
“I would pay good money to see that stupid smirk on Cruz’s face after getting his ass kicked down to third or fourth.”
It would still be there. The attitude is bone deep. Closest you will see to that is the glimpse when his daughter pushed him away when she was cross.
Oh, my. I did not know that... So he knows this turf very well.
I don’t think Hillary is going to jail. She knows too much, she would take them down with her. They will not allow that.
Rather, O will pardon her at a time he thinks will benefit the Dems the most (or hurt them the least).
Rule #1) People that brag about their Ground Game, don’t really have one.
I’m leaning towards Trump, and I can say the Iowa hype (by the media) is worse than I’ve ever witnessed.
This is a small amount of delegates and this isn’t winner take all.
Bottom line, winning might be something to crow about, but in a few weeks, Iowa will be ancient history.
>> What will the Trumpbots do if their guy loses?
I’m hoping to find out.
Today, it’s relatively quiet and boring here.
Tomorrow will be interesting, however it turns out. :-)
I saw that. Too funny.
Rubio is an utter con man.
When he was running for the senate, FL Tea Party and real conservatives gave him so much support.
As soon as he arrived in DC, he refused to even meet with the Tea Party Caucus.
He’ll do anything his GOPe masters tell him to do.
Swine. Slimy Rino Swine.
If they manage to select/appoint him as the nominee, I will NOT vote for him.
1 FL voter, here
I expect mass suicide from both sides when my man Yeb! comes through. You’ll all be sorry, oh, yes you will...
