Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is defending a campaign mailer that Iowa's secretary of state says misrepresents election law.
The mailer bills itself as a "voting violation" notice and tells the recipient it's been sent due to "low expected voter turnout in your area." It then grades the recipient's voting history and that of several neighbors, citing public records.
Cruz told reporters in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday that the mailing is "routine."
He says he won't apologize

Sending out a deceptive mailing likely to scare old people is “normal,” huh, Ted?
Clearly, this kind of thing has been done before in other’s campaigns - and it’s been scummy THEN, too.
I think sending this out is low, dirt-bag politics, but defending it as “normal” is even worse than sending it in the first place.
I used to think Cruz would be a great choice for VP. Not now.
He said” I will apologize to no one.” He is just like his college classmates said: “A know it all, a creep, a person who thinks he has nothing to learn from anyone.”
Cruz is a jerk. I damn sure do not want him (bought and paid for by Goldman Sachs and other money lenders like his private equity pals as CIC). He still tells crowds that his father fought with Castro and others. Total BS.
The crap he pulled is not illegal. Cruz just likes to stretch the truth.
I like Ted. He’s my second choice behind Trump. What he did, though was through public records of the “act of voting”, not “how you voted.”
Regardless, legal or not, defensible or not, it was a move I don’t believe he was aware of but is now accepting responsibility for. I’d like to think if he were really aware of it beforehand he’d have stopped it.
Nonetheless, it is a very unfortunate choice of tactic at this stage in the game.
Remember Trump firing Sam Nunberg, a campaign staffer who posted racist remarks. That wasn’t a big deal and neither is this.
A Cruz or Trump supporter. I think this to-do about the mailer is a bigger laugh than anything.
In the people’s republic of NY that would be just tossed in the circular file along with all political mailers. The same can be said for almost all TV ads. Slime? Sure.....and everyone does it.
I recommend Iowans offended by a piece of paper get a life, look at the real accomplishments of the candidates and remember that this is mild compared to political slime from years gone past.
For all your postal employees, mail handler, and neighbors to see that you are under investigation for voter fraud.
Wonderful decision, Ted.
This was dumb, but it’s too late in the game to admit so in public is what your handlers are telling you is the right answer.
They are wrong. The right answer is to apologize and show that consequences have happened. Restitution is the best. I’d say another mailer saying that it was a mistake driven by a desire to increase turnout, and that you are sorry.
Have the envelope as large with the words “Sorry” on the front.
how many supporters won’t vote?
how many new voters will be gained?
the people bitchin are not true believers and are irrelevant to the process
what principled cruz freeper has deserted him?
The hipocracy of this is what the Democrats would pound on if Cruz were the nominee, which he won’t be.
On a sliding scale, he hasn't done something this offensive (for want of a better word), yet, but his campaign hasn't been perfect! He's abandoned a few false taunts, for example, "Cruz could be Prime Minister of Canada."
After all, I assume the mailers went to all registered Iowa Repubs.
So perhaps the response would be "Sc*** them all...Im not caucusing.
Guess we have to know exactly who got them.
The significance of this goes beyond Iowa and certainly beyond FReepers.
News of the mailer came out after the poll ended. I think mailer delivery came after the poll concluded.
Just another thing I would get an “A” in. I welcome these in my town.
Trump has a long history of doing stupid things. He's an immature, phony, potentially dangerous jerk. Cruz at least 'gets it' on the complex situation in Syria, regarding Russia's broader (expansionist) agenda there and elsewhere. Trump either doesn't or is in cahoots with Putin on it.
I gave $50 to the Vets via Trump's Vet Rally instead of any politician.
in your tirade, you failed to note New York values and ruthless
better get on the ball if you want to be truly effective
LibbyLu is waiting for you chump.
