The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

It’s true, though. I have been smacking my head for a couple of hours at the idiocy. As a marketing ploy, this has to go down as one of the most insultingly ridiculous ever. If Cruz doesn’t forcefully denounce this, and can those responsible, he’s done.
My brain just keeps asking, WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING?
A Trump Tactic? Did you see the Trump mailer upthread. A nicely groomed invitation to caucus with the Donald complete with instructions location and necessary registration forms. There was a time listed when the Donald would have Jeeves stop by the limo to provide transportation for you and your family to the caucus event..complete with hot dogs and balloons. Now that was a Mailer!
“I see more Cruz-haters coming out of the woodwork on queue.”
Yeah!
How dare they comment on this! They should just keep silent so this can be swept under the rug!
One John and two Corinthians walk into a bar.
When Trump supporters have to defend him, they end up smearing staunch conservative talk show hosts, saying Trump critics are “too conservative,” praising him for fighting the establishment one day and for teaming up with the establishment the next...
I can guarantee you I will never have to betray or violate my principles to defend Cruz. And I feel no shame in defending him from criticism over a silly campaign mailing. There are vital issues at stake in this election. The format of this mailer is not worth the effort and time to talk about. This is a fluff tabloid issue that no one will care about nor remember after a day or so.
I’m extremely tired of hearing the non-stop smearing of Cruz and the wild overreaction on any piddling little mistake he makes. Cruz is the biggest hero in politics to emerge in the last 5 years and has an incredible future as a leader of the conservative movement. No one has done as much good for the conservative cause as Cruz. Not Trump, who donated to Democrats to pad his own business profits while never demanding they change their principles, and not Palin who abandoned political office to cash in on a reality TV career. Cruz can restore the conservative movement like Reagan and Gingrich did while Trump neither understands nor believes in the bedrock conservative principles and represents an existential threat to the conservative movement. We have bigger things to focus on than a get-out-the-vote mailer.
Yup, I think you’re right!
In doing some research, It actually appears Jeff Roe has a history of nasty campaign mailers, and they may indeed be the catalyst as to how and why Cruz hired him.
The worm turns ( or something profound like that ) ...
I’m not endorsing the source, it just came up in a Google search.
Yup
This is a Donald Trump tactic and Cruz's team should know better. Shaming people into voting is a great way to get them to vote for somebody else if they decide to do so.
Trump and Cruz walk into a bar...
You may be correct in Jedi, but for the Cruz Campaign to send out this mailer is bad optics when his whole campaign is riding on Iowa. If he doesn’t win Iowa, he is done. I want you to notice I am saying the Cruz campaign did this, not the candidate. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. But while its just a silly mailer. This things tend to take on a life of their own. Jeff Roe stepped on his wanger on this one.
Ok thx, Carson lost a lot of folks to Cruz.
You’re kind of creepy, too.
A John walks into a bar with some corinthian chicks...
I understand where you are coming from & I like Ted, but there is no longer a “conservative movement” to save.....there is only conservatism incorporated. Trump is rolling because he’s seen as a populist/nationalist. And that’s what the public is drawn to because this country is way past ideology now.
His father abandoned bot sets of kinds he fathered.
His mother got pregnant in between her husbands and begged her first husband to be allowed to use his last name for the baby he did NOT father, nor even knew about, until he ran into his ex-wife, quite by accident.
Oh yeah....Ted has some "great parents their; not!
I understand your feelings, but this is no PIDDLING LITTLE MISTAKE or SILLY CAMPAIGN MAILING. This INJURES Cruz. He has been ill-served by his marketing people. If you truly support him, you should demand the people who came up with this ridiculous Stalinist tactic BE FIRED!
Snap out of it. There are infinitely bigger issues to worry about than a mailer with some aggressive language in it. Trump’s the guy who said, “how stupid are the people of Iowa?” Yet this site focuses on a mailer Cruz may have never seen that simply describes voting history in a silly way as a career-ender for him. Complete insanity.
Trump wouldn’t do such a thing.
It's hard to see how this could have been done without his approval, so I think that won't work. It might be worth a last desperate effort, though.
