The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

No, Nixon NEVER did anything like this; he didn’t even think of it.
And he didn't disclose that he was a Canadian citizen at the time he was running and got elected.
Thanks, thought was a mailer date, just checking.
This is funnier than that Yeb! mailer with the hands/body of a Black Man.
This is really a bonehead move. I understand the asking for the vote...That’s fine, but this is really crass. I mean, I saw Trumps invitation to the caucus with the included instructions and location as well as supplied voter registration form if needed. Makes one think the Donald himself will stop by and pick you up in his limo and take you to the caucus site. I can almost smell the Trump aftershave through the computer screen. It smells like....victory!
Yep! Exactly.
If this is legit connected to Cruz, he’s finished. Done. Finis.
Seriously, would you want this guy as your lawyer? He is immature and has extremely poor judgment.
Maybe why Levin had a stand-in tonight. Admiring Palin’s sense more and more.
Really?
Your candidate’s campaign does something so boneheadedly stupid that you can’t even defend it, and the first thing you do is blame Trump and spill rancor on his supporters.
You are a sad, sad person.
Yes, this may not prompt people to vote for Trump, but it will almost certainly prompt people to vote against Cruz. Overall, I think it may suppress voter participation. If I'm an unregistered voter in Iowa that hears about this my thoughts are going to be, "Why in the hell should I put my name and address in a database that's going to be used like this?"
That would be my only thought.
I wouldn’t know of another explanation.
Take care.
Are you kidding, if Trump did that I would drop him immediately. It is the most insane campaign tactic I’ve ever seen, what a nut ball! I would love to find out tomorrow that it isn’t true after all.
But how many people KNOW that.
I would be very resentful if I got something like this.
That may be a game changer for me. First Beck. Then this?
Is someone over at Cruz’s campaign deliberately trying to sabotage him, or is he an idiot?
I’m hoping it’s the former but it may be the latter.
Either way, when you do crap like this, it’s game over.
350 million people in this country and we get this motley crew.
Unless I was getting paid, there comes a point...
The right to vote also includes the right not to vote. I support both.

This was a creepy thing to do. I am convinced that Mercer’s company is behind some of this stuff including the agressive calls, facebook and social media data mining.
They have a profile on every person that has liked a Cruz page on Facebook.
This is the application of big data. When the article states that it was narrow and targeted, my guess is that they cross referenced social media, especially facebook with the computerized voter records.
Those mailings would not be sent to everyone, too expensive and could resort in turning out the vote for your competitor.

Obama had a lesser version of this technology in 2012. Romney had something that did not work at all.
That’s all well and good and nice-sounding, but these are people who aren’t voting. The usual tactics aren’t working on them. They need a little tough love as a motivator.
Absolutely no one is suggesting these be sent out to everybody. They were sent out to a narrow targeted group. You have no idea what kind of voters these people are or what they respond to. Treating everyone like a special little snowflake is not what everybody responds to. And if the envelope didn’t look like something urgent, many people would never even open it.
That’s an interesting observation, except the Cruz campaign has taken responsibility for it. Care to try again?
Maybe that’s why the rumor of people quitting came about.
If you're on this site, you would never get it, because you vote. This is trying to motivate a narrow segment of voters who are apathetic.
