Byron York: Trump debate dodge fuels doubts, boosts Cruz
Washington Examiner ^ | January 27, 2016 | Byron York

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa - James and Brooks Schooley are raising a young family in this tiny Iowa community. They support Ted Cruz and brought their kids to an old church near the Bloomfield town square to hear the candidate, along with Iowa Rep. Steve King and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The Schooleys like Cruz's faith and his fealty to the Constitution. But their choice is also shaped by their wariness of the Republican front-runner, Donald Trump.

"He's not principled," James Schooley told me, referring to Trump. "He just goes by emotion."

"I feel like he doesn't stick to the Constitution the way Ted Cruz would," added Brooks. "Once you go away from that, then where's your standard? I mean, you can do anything."...

None of us know how this will play out, we’ll just have to wait and see.

But, judging from the past, Trump will survive OK, and it will be FOX that turns out to be the loser. Cruz probably won’t get much out of this, since Trump sucks up all the oxygen, and Cruz doesn’t know how to do that or deal with it.

Since when is telling the truth a crime, Wannabe Mod?

An opinion is not "truth", but I was not trying to moderate her comment. I was just making my own comment on the level of intelligence her post conveyed (very low) and the amount of value it added to the discussion (none at all).

Why should Cruz exit the debate? For one Trump has kept his “feud” going with Megyn Kelly.

I for one think it’s just being a baby to skip out on the debate.

Cruz doesn’t need to walk out to validate anything that Trump does.

All I know is that since last June, he has been nearly ALONE in attacking our enemies and supporting America, and above all is ALWAYS first. Cruz is never, ever first in coming out on these things, whether it was illegals, Syrian refugees, guns in Paris, now this. Leaders lead. Followers follow, and those who don’t follow end up losers. Let’s hope Ted follows.

Tackier and tackier. Keep trying, though, maybe if you scream loud enough someone will actually listen.

Pretend it is 2012, and Romney was to face another debate with Cathy Crowley after she steered the one before to Obama.

In 2012, Romney was the Conservative and Crowley was the liberal. Today, Kelly is the Conservative and Trump is the liberal.

“Have you ever noticed that Donald Trump has an affinity for bashing and maligning conservatives?”

Yes I have, and I’ve noticed he has an affinity to praise liberal, progressive, democrats and is ready to make deals with them. McConnell and Ryan should love him.

When Ted loses Iowa he’ll head back to Canada with his tails between his legs.

Maybe he can be a real conservative PM for Canada?

Yeah I’ve noticed that, and Trump campaign events are not “breaking news”.

I bet one of them would refuse to show.

The survivor could then just coronate himself.

No, of course he doesn’t. He can lose. Walking out would enhance him, but he’s welcome to stay. There are only two results, neither good:

a) He’ll be good, no one will notice.

b) He’ll be attacked by everyone else and look bad, and the buzz eill get out everywhere.

Be quiet now, the Trump haters might learn something. Naw, they are incapable of learning anything except what is spoon fed to them by the Beltway mediots and pundits.

This is how Trump rolls. He wanted to walk on this and baited them until he got the silly reply.

Trump has done more interviews on more different stations than the others combined. He already attended 6 debates and is on general record as having won them all. Trump set them up and walked. He just sucked the air right out of the system one more time.

“”He’s not principled,” James Schooley told me, referring to Trump. “He just goes by emotion.”

seems James can’t see the difference of what’s emotional choosing and what is principles of business and negotiation based action - which is what lacks in our GOP held congress and senate as well as resident obama and why the country is being voted with the GOP help, and EOed down the tubes.

James speaks from emotion/feeling without having full information, is he not principled?

Why don't you straighten out that shithole called California, and then you can straighten us out.

I see your ability to engage in adult conversation is at the same level as your fellow Trump cultists. Let me clue you into something - insulting and swearing at people that disagree with you is not being "un-PC". It is just childish, rude and reflects badly on your intelligence and maturity (and to some extent, on the way your parents raised you). In a way, I don't blame you - I assume you are somewhat conservative, or you would not be on this forum. The cognitive dissonance of trying to convince yourself that a lifelong liberal like Trump is really a conservative savior must be driving you almost to the point of schizophrenia...

Amazing how this happens time after time! The mods have caught several manufactured titles versus the real ones.

The title does not match the article at all. It is all about people that never backed Trump anyway.
