Liberals won't like it.
If Ted Cruz is elected president, he has big plans for the Supreme Court -- namely, picking extremely conservative candidates to fill any vacancies among the nine justices.
In an interview with Bloomberg, the Senator and former solicitor general from Texas said that Republicans are generally bad at picking nominees for the high court, and that he'd be different.
"Unlike many of the other candidates, I will be willing to spend the capital to ensure that every Supreme Court nominee that I put on the court is a principled judicial conservative," Cruz said.
As solicitor general, Bloomberg notes, Cruz argued in front of the court on behalf of his state.
Cruz specifically called out Chief Justice John Roberts, appointed by George W. Bush, and Anthony Kennedy, appointed by Ronald Reagan, as bad picks. Roberts has gotten a lot of flack among conservatives in recent years for voting to uphold Obamacare, while Kennedy was castigated by the right for writing the opinion this year to legalize gay marriage.
The next president will likely have a few vacancies to fill. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Antonin Scalia, and Anthony Kennedy will all be over 80 years old by election day, while Stephen Breyer will be 78.
So how would Cruz find truly conservative justices? He said he'd look for candidates with "a long paper trail as principled conservative jurists." This means jurists who've actually made decisions, rather than the sometimes more politically palatable candidates without as much of a record.
With regards to Roberts (and Souter, incidentally), I think it would be helpful to make sure that a pick is not gay.
Just sayin’.

On those issues, I trust Cruz.
Roberts betrayed a lot of people who genuinely believed he’d uphold the Constitution. That can’t be laid at Cruz’s feet.
This is unfortunately necessary to enable the restoration of the republic.
It’s unlikely to happen. Far more likely is that we continue our intentional slide to third world status.
Cruz is our best shot.
Cruz is an American citizen...you have proof he isn’t..?
Please paste it here for all of us to see...!
there was a fair amount of dust kicked up by freepers that day, if my memory is correct.
i remember this one awful b*&*#( called OhioWFan who was particularly snarky.
in any event...I think the skeptics turned out to be right. at least on the one case that mattered most and Roberts changed his vote (because the obama people had the goods on him).
It means he will go to the mats if necessary. Of course he would then be assaulted for “not being liked” by the liberal wing of the US Senate which numbers about 90.
America is not a theocracy. Nor is it looking for a priest-in-chief.
If the church wants people, then they need to clean up their own messes, and find their way back from the plastic Christianity they all adopted.
No, we should demand trump take his progressive rearend back to the democrat party where he belongs, and stay there.
“Iâm not saying what Cruz says here is wrong - just that using this as some kind of measuring stick for Cruz (or anyone, for that matter) is silly.”
It’s a probability consideration. Kind of like the bottom of the ninth, team is down by 1, man on 2nd base, and Trump is hitting .275 and Cruz is at .345. Who do you want at the plate knowing neither might get a hit?
From a longer article that this article was sourced from:
Presidents Bush took the “easy way out” by picking Souter and Roberts, Cruz said. “They didn't want to spend the political capital trying to confirm a proven conservative.” As examples of principled conservative justices he'd model his nominees after, Cruz cited Scalia, Clarence Thomas, William Rehnquist, and Samuel Alito.

Just stating the truth. See my tagline. GOD does not lie.
The Supreme court has to rule on that...but the only thing you have is his Canadian birth certificate and so you need to prove he’s a ‘natural born citizen’ we don’t....Our candidate was born in AMERICA to an Born American Father and a NATURLIZED Mother BEFORE Trump was born....
So give US your proof that we can see a document from Canada saying he is a Natural Born Citizen of the United States of America....
Which if history has proven to our dismay, is no more of a plan than shooting dice. How else would Regan pick complete flops but GHW Bush pick winners
As Cruz says, for political reasons, we've been picking justices without a long paper trail. He would not do that.
If a Republican is elected, Ginsberg aand Breyer will die in their seats rather than step down and retire.
Was Cruz’a mother a naturalized citizen....?
What exactly does "go to the mats" mean, in the specifics of how he'll get his nominations confirmed?
Ted understands how this game needs to be played. He’s been there, he’s done that.
Cruz 2016.
