The Nation is a liberal, democratic magazine. Leslie Savan(the author) hates conservatives. She calls them racist and other insults. She is a strong supporter of BlackLives Matter and other Soros backed groups.

But she thinks Cruz can fill a necessary role. He can fill in as the designated loser to Hillary Clinton.

From the article:

"Trump, is more "likable" than Cruz. He has warmth and humor, and can at least mimic the sound of empathy.

That's why I'm rooting for Cruz. Hillary could beat him with ease, while the Beltway illusion-that she'd trample Trump-is crumbling more every day. The farce is with him."

Plausible, but not certain.
After Iowa Cruz will try to appeal to the middle. He may have some success.

You left these out

I’ll put it out there—I’m rooting for Ted Cruz to win Iowa and New Hampshire and anywhere else he can do damage to Trump before the Joe McCarthy lookalike self-immolates in a bonfire of biofuel, birth certificates, and Goldman Sachs loans.

Yes, Cruz is a schlong. (And, by the way, Cruz didn’t support the Zadroga bill either, nor did 9/11 free-rider New Jersey governor Chris Christie.) And I get it that the real story about Trump’s slap-down in the last GOP debate was the way the mogul used the terror attack to establish dominance over Cruz, even making him applaud as he was being trumped.

That's why I'm rooting for Cruz. Hillary could beat him with ease, while the Beltway illusion—that she'd trample Trump—is crumbling more every day. The farce is with him.

She can keep on wishing.

Trump is going to run the table.

Here’s a nightmare scenario for poor Leslie Savan...

-Trump wins and takes Cruz along as VP
-Trump serves 2 years and a day and having put into motion all he had planned he resigns and returns to his business empire.
-Cruz becomes president and has two years to prove himself.
-Cruz is elected to his own term.
-Cruz is later elected to a 2nd full term.
-Cruz servers for 10 years.... the nation is saved...the dems are toast.

If u gonna dream, Dream BIG! :-)

So what you’re saying is, the article basically says, she wants Cruz because Hiiilary can beat him.

I agree 1000%.

Who is NRO backing if they’re not backing Trump. If it’s Cruz, then they’re backing an unelectable candidate.

Yep, the GOPe is down to ONE LAST PRAYER in trying to stop Trump - which is support Cruz until Cruz can knock out Trump, then DUMP ALL OVER CRUZ, so that a ‘mainstream’ Republican can run.

If I were Cruz, I wouldn’t trust that bunch for a moment.

Name calling in the first idea. So I stop reading. Not because I’m scared ... But because I know the rest is trash. That goes for both sides of this debate.

I respect neither the positions, or the analysis that comes out of The Nation. That publication is as much for this nation as Karl Marx. I would discard what they think about Trump or Cruz as intellectual masturbation, and about as important to you or I as that.
