Schumer: Trump 'right on the money' defending NY
The Hill ^ | January 17, 2016 | Peter Sullivan

Posted on 01/17/2016 5:32:50 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is slamming Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz for attacking “New York values" and praising GOP rival Donald Trump for defending his home state.

"I'm a Democrat, but Donald Trump did a very good job defending New York," Schumer told host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" on New York's AM-970 on Sunday.

"I'd like Ted Cruz to go talk about New York values to the firefighters who rushed to the towers on 9/11, and the police and EMTs, to the brave New York police officers who keep our streets safe," he added.

Schumer also noted that Cruz's wife worked for Goldman Sachs.

"Maybe he wants to go to Wall Street and talk about New York values, you know, where his wife worked," Schumer said.

After Cruz attacked Trump this week for representing "New York values," Trump defended himself at Thursday's GOP presidential debate by invoking the city's response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"I think [Cruz] hurt himself and he deserved to, and Trump, gotta give him credit, was right on the money in his response," Schumer said.

Schumer also referred to a New York Daily News front page showing the Statue of Liberty giving Cruz the middle finger.

"He will be now forever on the front page of the Daily News memorialized, because they had the Statue of Liberty, and she made a gesture in Cruz's direction," Schumer said.

As for the Senate, Schumer touted the body's bipartisan work in December, including passage of a transportation bill. Schumer said the work would be a sign of a productive year ahead.

"I think things are going to be a little better in the next 12 months," he said.

Haha, true conservatives are never afraid of FACTS.

If he isn’t saying what I wrote, you would post it in heart beat.

Lol, the Trump zombies are just like Obama robots, don’t bother them with facts when there is hero worshipping to be done.

Any Cruz supporters, please post Dana Bash 7/29/15 interview with Trump.
Maybe we can convince one or two Trump zombies what an amnesty phony he is.

If it was that important to you, you could have literally typed the URL character by character and hit "post", there is nothing wrong with your typing skills, you've been spamming this thread with repetitive garbage all day. But type out a URL? "ohhh babycakes can't DO that!"

You're doing nothing but playing games.

Get lost troll.

Interesting you are not posting it since you are a computer expert.

Makes me go hmmmm.

” we are going to deport them and then let them right back in and make them legal” Donald Trump 7/29/15 to Dana Bash on CNN

Just to remind everyone of what as actually said...

Trump embodies "New York values"... (asked to explain)... "Listen, there are many, many wonderful, wonderful working men and women in the state of New York. But everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay-marriage, focus around money and the media."

That's what Cruz SAID... "wonderful, socially liberal, pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage, money, media"... that's it... and the MSM has turned it into a brawl within the conservative circles like Freerepublic.

Yeah, you’re a troll.

You want that URL posted so bad, you can’t bring yourself to type it out character by character, you have to beg your fellow Trump haters to do it for you. So far, nobody is biting.

And just like a liberal, you want to try and make it the OTHER guy’s fault, with your liberal logic, since I won’t post the URL, that means you occupy the moral high ground?

Jesus would give you a spanking for that.

I think you may be confused. Both of the quotes you used were by Cruz.

“You know, I think most people know exactly what New York values are,” Cruz said.

“I am from New York. I don’t,” Bartiromo said.

So the GOP conservative explained: “Listen, there are many, many wonderful, wonderful working men and women in the state of New York. But everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay-marriage, focus around money and the media.”

Cruz was out of line to talk about NY values. A person has values, a family, a school, a church group, a group of people with a shared ideology. NYC is a vast conglomerate of divergent values from way left to far right, from socialist to libertarian. He was just trying to get the Evangelicals to like him by setting NY up to be his straw man and I have lost respect for him because of his selfserving willingness to trash NY.

You really should take a step back. NY stands for many things to many people. I’m sorry you in your infinite wisdom have found it wanting.

NY is the one of the great engines of the world. It’s where the world comes together to shop, to invest, to vacation. We have some of the best museums and theatres in the world, beautiful parks, cuisine from every nation, awesome cathedrals.

NY doesn’t care what you think, people that stand off from afar and throw mud can’t hurt NY. There is a vibrancy and creativity in NY that won’t give a hoot that you want to put the city in a box with some labels you say fit. You are sour and angry but those are not the emotions that are going to resurrect this country. There is nothing adult in your need to transform NY into your vision of Sodom or Gomorrah.

why would you be hurt by that circumstance.

you’re BLAMING it on yankees, so there’s no reflection on you.

Cruz didn’t blame southerners moving here and ruining it.

that’s no comparison at all.

have a good one

I like what you’ve said Jay.

My view of New York and New York City is that there is indeed a liberal slant to many facets of the culture of the Empire State, that doesn’t mean that there are not conservatives among the population but the State hasn’t voted for a Republican President since Reagan’s re-election in ‘84.

I’ve been to New York and to New York City, back during the Reagan years (and before that during the Rockefeller years in Albany) and it is true: there is no other place like it.

Do I agree with the modern social values that we see predominantly on display in New York? The honest answer is “no I do not”, but I view New York and NYC as one would view someone in their family who they never agree with, who always seems to get into arguments over Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, be it smoking stinky cigars, or maybe having one drink too many, or playing grabass with the waitresses, we don’t approve of any of it, we admonish them to behave themselves, but in the end, they are one of our Fifty States, one of our Founding States, and they are part of our National Family. I may never agree with them, I may sometimes wish that someone would kick their ass for their words or deeds, but kick them out of our family?

Hell no. They are FAMILY. And while you may not like all of your family, deep down you do love them, and you apply the Christian principle of “hate the sin, love the sinner”.

New York deserves no less. When the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01 occurred, it was universally heard in many homes that “today, we’re all New Yorkers” and we put aside our differences and came together as one Nation, one Family.

And that’s the way it ought to be.

Let the flames begin.

The transcript of that interview is posted and it is exactly what Trump has claimed he would do with Immigration all along.

Deport first the law breakers and then the remaining illegals but expedite the process so the ones that American interests would be served by their return, could come back legally. He said they would then have legal status but that at this point he was opposed to giving them citizenship.

He said that the dreamers would go with their parents. He said clearly that some of the decisions would be difficult but that America came first.

Not confused at all. My post says "Cruz SAID".

But Cruz is NOT "out of line" to mention NYC values. Freepers constantly say that SF Is a liberal cesspool. Most of us are not from SF. WE do not "cross a line" by doing so.

And I'm ashamed that so many of my fellow native New Yorkers are such thin-skinned wusses that getting called "wonderful working people", "socially liberal", etc would cause them to be "offended". Please.

Your post implies that the "(asked to explain)" is Trump. If you are not clear in your posting then you will be misunderstood.

During our greatest time in economic history when we enjoyed half of the world’s GDP and did not need World War Two to achieve it, the republicans used a similar trick ...

They ‘waved the bloody flag’ to keep down the Confederate KKK Democrats. Worked like a charm. Did our nation a lot of good.

Cynical tactic, sure. But they understood low info-voters back then.

Here’s where the issue stands now unless there’s been an update since ....

“Ted Cruz: Trump Will Let Deported Immigrants Back In, I Won’t”
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3379878/posts

And it really is bad form to tell someone something and expect the person you tell to look it up himself. That’s just being devisive rather than informative.

But nasty retorts are even worse.

Come on, guys. We will need each others’ support after the primary.

Yes. Trump is INDEED a patriot. And so is Cruz.

And you know what?

Rubio is also a patriot.

Jeb is a man-without-borers. Not possible to be that and a patriot at the same time.

‘If Cruz doesn’t get the nom I see that as God’s sign that Cruz is still needed in the Senate. He would also make one helluva Supreme.’

I hope Cruz gets executive experience if he really wants to be President in the future. Otherwise, I agree with both.

Ah.

Easy when someome takes the time to tell you.

You ‘right click’ on the link and select ‘properties’.

Then you can copy-past the web address.

Here on the forum, the fastest way to send people links is simply by pasting the web address.

Most people show the address right below the headline. [The address normally reveals a lot of information about the article.]

For more information, you can enter the ‘html’ sandbox. But if I were you? I’d just practice copy-pasting addresses for a while. All I do anymore. [But I used to run a blog a long long time ago.]

Please feel free to contact me for more tips.

FRegards ....

Ignorance is bliss.

Trump plan - deport illegals, let them back in on an expedited basis and now they are “legal”

What a genius Trump is, problem solved.
