You really should take a step back. NY stands for many things to many people. I’m sorry you in your infinite wisdom have found it wanting.

NY is the one of the great engines of the world. It’s where the world comes together to shop, to invest, to vacation. We have some of the best museums and theatres in the world, beautiful parks, cuisine from every nation, awesome cathedrals.

NY doesn’t care what you think, people that stand off from afar and throw mud can’t hurt NY. There is a vibrancy and creativity in NY that won’t give a hoot that you want to put the city in a box with some labels you say fit. You are sour and angry but those are not the emotions that are going to resurrect this country. There is nothing adult in your need to transform NY into your vision of Sodom or Gomorrah.

I like what you’ve said Jay.

My view of New York and New York City is that there is indeed a liberal slant to many facets of the culture of the Empire State, that doesn’t mean that there are not conservatives among the population but the State hasn’t voted for a Republican President since Reagan’s re-election in ‘84.

I’ve been to New York and to New York City, back during the Reagan years (and before that during the Rockefeller years in Albany) and it is true: there is no other place like it.

Do I agree with the modern social values that we see predominantly on display in New York? The honest answer is “no I do not”, but I view New York and NYC as one would view someone in their family who they never agree with, who always seems to get into arguments over Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, be it smoking stinky cigars, or maybe having one drink too many, or playing grabass with the waitresses, we don’t approve of any of it, we admonish them to behave themselves, but in the end, they are one of our Fifty States, one of our Founding States, and they are part of our National Family. I may never agree with them, I may sometimes wish that someone would kick their ass for their words or deeds, but kick them out of our family?

Hell no. They are FAMILY. And while you may not like all of your family, deep down you do love them, and you apply the Christian principle of “hate the sin, love the sinner”.

New York deserves no less. When the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01 occurred, it was universally heard in many homes that “today, we’re all New Yorkers” and we put aside our differences and came together as one Nation, one Family.

And that’s the way it ought to be.

Let the flames begin.
