Trump Hits Cruz on Loans, Citizenship: ‘Did He Borrow Unreported Loans From Canadian Banks?’
The Blaze ^ | 1/16/2016 | Kaitlyn Schallhorn

Even as GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz faces scrutiny over failing to disclose certain loans used in a previous Senate race, Donald Trump did not miss an opportunity to bring the Texas senator's Canadian birth into the mix.

As the New York Times reported, not only did Cruz fail to disclose a Goldman Sachs loan used for his 2012 Senate campaign, he also apparently failed to disclose a loan from Citibank for the same race. In a series of tweets Saturday morning, Trump, the Republican presidential frontrunner, eviscerated his fellow candidate and raised more questions regarding his citizenship.

"Based on the fact that Ted Cruz was born in Canada and is therefore a 'natural born Canadian,' did he borrow unreported loans from [Canadian] banks," Trump tweeted.

Since Cruz has crept closer to Trump in polls, the business mogul has repeatedly raised questions over Cruz's eligibility to hold the office of president as he was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father.

"Ted Cruz said he 'didn't know' that he was a Canadian Citizen. He also FORGOT to file his Goldman Sachs Million $ loan papers. Not believable," Trump said in another tweet Saturday morning.

"Oh no, just reported that Ted Cruz didn't report another loan, this one from Citi. Wow, no wonder banks do so well in the U.S. Senate," Trump continued.

Trump also continued to criticized Cruz for comments he's made about "New York values" on the campaign trail and during Fox Business' Republican presidential debate Thursday.

"The Ted Cruz wiseguy apology to the people of New York is a disgrace. Remember, his wife's employer, and his lender, is located there!" Trump tweeted Saturday.

Cruz's wife, Heidi, announced last year that she was taking an unpaid leave of absence from Goldman Sachs...

It was Cruz’s answer to a specific question that has turned me off to him. I expected a ‘wise’ and Constitutional answer. When he threw Trump’s citizen mother under the bus I saw him as a common run of the mill lawyer. Both of Trumps parents were citizens and Trump was born in the US.... It was very cheap and tawdry to answer a very simple question.

This is perfectly legitimate thing for Trump to bring up.

The US FEC would not have authority to get information on Canadian loans.

>> Seriously? You "can no longer" support Trump because he asks about other loans Cruz could have had out? <<

If it makes you feel better, I could never support Trump in the first place, and this just reinforces how slimy he is.

His loans were paid off by his campaign (other people’s money, not his)
Other people who want something in return for their donation.

Ted Cruz would never be in the top five if not for Trump. It doesn’t matter how conservative a candidate is if they can’t win and Ted can’t win. Trump going after him is a fraction of what the establishment would do.

So it’s not a question of who’s a better conservative. It’s whether we want Trump or Bush. Everyone understands this at some level so I’m at a loss why conservatives would hand the race to Bush at this point in time. Bush is just waiting for something to happen to Trump because he can’t beat Trump. But he’s still in the game because he’s got extensive ground games in every state, lots of cash. and the media. He and the establishment is not yet defeated.

If we don’t step back and look at this race we are going to lose, again.

I am not amused by the Support Cruz at all cost mentality and the treacherous manner in which many of his supporters treat fellow human beings...

Agree with everything you said and in particular this. Obama was groomed for years for the coup. I think we are being played again and this time by the uniparty.

I have been a Cruz guy since the beginning and was admittedly disappointed that he would not take on Trump because Trump was browbeating lesser men out of the race. So I am actually glad that Trump has pulled the 9/11 gambit and is spreading rumors that Cruz somehow broke federal election laws. I want to see how Cruz responds and so far he is responding well. Trump is good training for the Clinton machine.

But Cruz is in an uphill battle so long as there are so many in the race. In a head to head matchup there will be enough conservatives to push Cruz across the line against Trump. But if Bush, Rubio and Carson remain in that accrues to Trumps advantage.

And the GOPe when push comes to shove will back Trump over Cruz as will the New York Media. After all Trump has bought and paid for a lot of them.

So when is Cruz going to release the amended FEC docs? He seems to be slow playing it by asking the FEC for additional info. His story has already changed that also the all info was in the Senate doc. It wasn’t. I have a feeling there will be more twists and turns in this story.

You mean Trump’s NATURAL BORN BRITISH mother? The mother that did NOT take the steps to have Great Britain rescind her British citizenship when she was NATURALIZED? THAT MOTHER?

So he can turn the entire country into a giant New York? No thanks. He can stay in Manhattan and write fat checks to Cuomo and Hillary.

This is why I can no longer support Trump.

I hate when Trump tells the truth too......it is way too refreshing. I know most of us expect the politician to lie like Cruz did filling out his paperwork......and yes he knew exactly what he was doing........but Trump calls him out and you have a coronary. Come on....you are better then that. Please don’t tell me you are supporting Cruz who we are just now finding out is not Presidential material. He may have a brain problem if lying doesn’t suit you. Would you forget to add a million dollars on mandatory paperwork? No you would not and Cruz knew he was doing wrong.

It doesn’t matter how conservative a candidate is if they can’t win and Ted can’t win.

So DON'T vote for the SOLID Conservative...
Vote for the liberal Yankee...
To save us all from the GOPe...

Do you even hear yourself?

it’s tough to watch a professional like Trump. You are normally supporting liars like Cruz so I understand your getting pissed off over honesty when you have zero principles. Sad because you could be a great person but just morally empty.

I cannot find anywhere the writers of our Constitution ever allowed for the possibility that a president would have duel citizenship. And this idea that Cruz cleaned his bonfides and is now natural born because he recently denounced his Canadian citizenship does not cut the mustard with me.

That will chap a lot of hide.
