Trump Hits Cruz on Loans, Citizenship: ‘Did He Borrow Unreported Loans From Canadian Banks?’
The Blaze ^ | 1/16/2016 | Kaitlyn Schallhorn

Even as GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz faces scrutiny over failing to disclose certain loans used in a previous Senate race, Donald Trump did not miss an opportunity to bring the Texas senator's Canadian birth into the mix.

As the New York Times reported, not only did Cruz fail to disclose a Goldman Sachs loan used for his 2012 Senate campaign, he also apparently failed to disclose a loan from Citibank for the same race. In a series of tweets Saturday morning, Trump, the Republican presidential frontrunner, eviscerated his fellow candidate and raised more questions regarding his citizenship.

"Based on the fact that Ted Cruz was born in Canada and is therefore a 'natural born Canadian,' did he borrow unreported loans from [Canadian] banks," Trump tweeted.

Since Cruz has crept closer to Trump in polls, the business mogul has repeatedly raised questions over Cruz's eligibility to hold the office of president as he was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father.

"Ted Cruz said he 'didn't know' that he was a Canadian Citizen. He also FORGOT to file his Goldman Sachs Million $ loan papers. Not believable," Trump said in another tweet Saturday morning.

"Oh no, just reported that Ted Cruz didn't report another loan, this one from Citi. Wow, no wonder banks do so well in the U.S. Senate," Trump continued.

Trump also continued to criticized Cruz for comments he's made about "New York values" on the campaign trail and during Fox Business' Republican presidential debate Thursday.

"The Ted Cruz wiseguy apology to the people of New York is a disgrace. Remember, his wife's employer, and his lender, is located there!" Trump tweeted Saturday.

Cruz's wife, Heidi, announced last year that she was taking an unpaid leave of absence from Goldman Sachs...

When a candidate is running for President I pay little attention to what they say. I look at their record in detail before they were running for President. Cruz's record and core beliefs have not changed. Trump has changed radically from just a few years back. He was a Dem, he was pro choice, he supported and donated to the Clinton's. I do not trust Donald Trump.

I have not been tuned in daily on this election. I was intrigued initially when Trump entered the Republican race. Thinking hmmmm? I did watch his AZ rally, and was moved to tears when that gentleman from LA was allowed to tell the story of his loss of his precious son by gunned down by Obama’s illegals..

The amount of time Trump gave this man, was not the least bit selfish... That spoke volumes to me. My heart still hurts for this man.

Then the roster began to fill up with all manner of “I want to be presidents”... For years I have read time and again about Senator Cruz being the ‘conservative’ Harvard Law School, ‘originalist’ Constitutional leader. I watched the Maggie Kelly debate where she demonstrated her complete disrespect of the invited candidates to show she was David out to slay Goliath the Trump.

Since that debate I removed myself from more than a bit of pursuing the headlines.

I have not singled myself into any particular candidate. But had perceptions of what I already knew about each candidate.

Right at this moment I want to heave when I hear of Cruz high moral standing... Why? Because when asked in the debate regarding his questionable eligibility, he did not answer the question. He went off on a tangent about who else might not be qualified... ( I am thinking WTH) this guy has been touted as the pristine Constitutional Scholar and he will not answer a very simple question. Then when he went off the deep end and questioned Trump's eligibility because of his mother.

Trump is without question a ‘natural born’ citizen and on that front eligible to hold the office of president. Now that is not to say that he has not made many errors, and sinned like the rest of US.... Christ said you break one Commandment you break them all and NONE has passed through this flesh journey except Christ sinless...

I cannot right now get past the great repulsion I have for Cruz because he was NOT honest. I believe he knows he does not meet the Constitutional Requirement to hold the office of president. But he is above the Constitution and that is a huge turn off to me.

I have not decided if I can vote for him, right now I find him far more egotistic than Trump could ever be. What kind of values does this flaunting of the Constitution demonstrate IF we accept a fraud.

I cannot find anywhere the writers of our Constitution ever allowed for the possibility that a president would have duel citizenship. And this idea that Cruz cleaned his bonfides and is now natural born because he recently denounced his Canadian citizenship does not cut the mustard with me.

I am not amused by the Support Cruz at all cost mentality and the treacherous manner in which many of his supporters treat fellow human beings...

IF anyone thinks the liberal scholars will not tear Cruz up and spit him out they forgot what they did daily to GWBush... Unfortunately, on this one I believe they will have the Constitutional LAW on their side.

His 7 months of campaigning too much for me.

You support Mr. Cruz but spent 7 months following Trump?

Hmmm.

Congrats on the promotion.
And I’m sure that in the name of active honest debate you will similarly post articles critical of Trump.

Trump is jumping the shark attacking Cruz.

The left shark, most definitely.

Thanks for being positive. I am not at all convinced that Trump is anything other than a showman. He is saying a lot of things that tickle the ears of conservatives, but his track record of fighting for conservative causes and candidates is pretty thin.

The problem here on Free Republic is that this forum has become Cruz Bashing central and Birther Central. I had hoped for a Trump/Cruz or Cruz/Trump ticket, but when Trump went birther and then went dirty on the campaign loans, that pretty much ended whatever opportunity there was for a “dream” ticket.

This forum was Ted Cruz country just a few short weeks ago. Cruz did make some errors in voting for TPA and the Corker Amendment, but neither of those votes have any meaning since Obama apparently is going to implement the Iran Agreement and TPP without even going to Congress. Ted Cruz has admitted he was wrong on TPA. I don’t know if he has repented for the Corker vote.

Trump has made a number of completely contradictory statements recently including his apparent support for touch back Amnesty, a position that even Rubio does not favor.

Trump is not going to be a political savior. I think he is the Federal equivalent of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He will run as a conservative and then lead as a liberal.

Right now I am very dismayed with all the hatred being shown against Ted Cruz. He has a 100% ACU rating and has never contributed a dime to Hillary or Bill Clinton.

If you are looking for your candidate to save the world, then you are going to be sorely disappointed. Everyone thought Arnold Schwarzenegger would save California. How’d that work out?

I totally agree the people here seem to be more worked up then Trump or Cruz, Let it all hang out and we will deal with it. Some of these people are going to end up with a Heart Attack.

Uh, Trump previously stated he was pro-abortion.
In his 2000 book, America We Deserve, Trump wrote, “I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.”

You're not getting the big picture here.

The big picture is that Trump does not have a history of being anything close to a conservative. Ted Cruz has a lifetime record of conservatism.

Yeah. And my question to you is SO What? He broke no law, he hid no loans, he just got lost in the labyrinth of the federal behemoth. And you have your pants in a twist over that? Why? Because Trump tells you to? Good Lord you people are anal.

I cannot find anywhere the writers of our Constitution ever allowed for the possibility that a president would have duel citizenship.

Every single one of them held dual citizenship. Washington was an officer in the British Army. Did that affect his loyalty to the United States of America?

Sheesh!

Thank you for a wonderful and well though out comment. AZ is where Trump grabbed me too. He was and is still so unselfish with his stage and so willing to get their stories out.

I guess I am a strict constitutionalist and at the beginning of the season I totally discounted Cruz (Canadian) Jindel and Rubio (anchor babies). I am horrified that they are running and people think it is okay.

Hey follow your morals.... You let this go and anybody is eligible to sit in the office of president. Funny how you would compare Washington to Cruz... And people itch about the double standards of liberals.

What is his track record? As opposed to what? Those in D.C. who've created this epic disaster? Seriously, Trump isn't running for the top lawyer or clerk job, he's running for President. One who will put the best in the mix and put America first.

We've seen the world class debater. I'm not impressive by his debating skills or his unfolding history.
