Cruz "insulted a lot of people," Trump said. "I've had more calls on that statement that Ted made. New York is a great place, it's got great people, it's got loving people, wonderful people. When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York."
"[T]wo one hundred and ten story buildings come crashing down. I saw them come down. Thousands of people killed, and the clean up started the next day and it was the most horrific cleanup in the history of doing this and in construction," Trump said.
"I was down there. And I've never seen anything like it. And the people in New York fought and fought and fought and we saw more death and even the smell of death, nobody understood it. And it was with us for months, the smell, the air. And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers. And I have to tell you that was a really insulting statement that Ted made."
Cruz did not offer a response to Trump.

I think Trump just won his home state tonight.
Cruz lost me to night doubling down on that. He doesn’t want to be president of the entire nation - only his precious red states. Not even an attempt to win over the blue.

So only persons in New Jersey were cheering as the buildings fell? No one in NYC was among those gleeful of the attack?
I say this to point out the double standard Mr. Trump is exhibiting to critically claim that someone was referring to ALL people of a type.
Also, Mr. Trump, what sort of government did New York voters recently usher into City Hall there? Is that mayor someone who’s extremist politics would pass muster in flyover country?

trumps emotional arrow was aimed at the wrong target and he knows it and most of the rest of it KNOW THAT
the NYC state of mind...as exemplified by Billy DI Blasio,,,,was the TARGET of Ted Cruzes comment
the SMELL in NYC....on 911 had nothing to do with the COMMENT
it was used to trigger emotional reactions and gain points.

Personally, I don’t think Cruz has any intention of going to war with the blue states. He may even need a few votes from them to get to the White House.
