Should it be Trump v. Clinton in 2016, it will be great fun
National Post ^ | 01/02/2015 | Rex Murphy

Normally, reverberating feminist truisms would deserve neither ink nor air, but American politics is no longer normal. Donald Trump is its ringmaster now. Brash, egotistic and determined to play by no rules but his own, Trump has bulldozed the conventional understanding of how politics is to be played, what may be said and how to deal with opponents.

The debates will be less of a factor than in most elections because by the time we get to that point I suspect two things will have happened:
  1. Trump will have already sent Hillary's negatives sky high with a relentless pre-debate truth-telling campaign so that she'll be on the defensive from the start. Remember, she has a record to defend and several closets full of skeletons.
  2. Unlike the previous several Republican nominees who went into these things like lambs to the slaughter against obviously biased formats and "moderators", Trump and his team will negotiate locations, moderators, and formats that are far more balanced and thus favorable to him.

Remember, one of the reasons Trump has done so well is that he's refused to allow the media to control the narrative. I fully expect that to continue into the general election campaign.

He’s compromised his principles the same way Mitt Romeny compromised his by flip flopping, although Donald is way worse than Romney in doing this over the years. He has gratuitously changed political positions on the key issues from socialized medicine (he still likes some forms of it), to gay marriage (although he says we should move on), gun control, abortion, social security and his praise of both the Clinton and Bush family. The man has no principles because he’s always changing his spots to adapt to the political climate that suits him. How can we trust Trump to be what he claims to be when he is known to constantly evolve his positions from the left to the right and back again?

She, literally, will have more money than she knows what to do with.

and Trump is already at that point.

I believe, unlike some others, that Trump is not afraid to spend it.

So he's donated to Hillary Clinton's four senate campaigns in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007, as well as donating a six-digit sum to the Clinton Foundation. Clinton also attended Trump’s 2005 wedding, and Trump once called her a “fantastic Senator" amongst other compliments thrown her way throughout the years. But, he's changed now, no way he would ever associate with the Clintons again or support liberals if he were to lose the primary or win the presidency?

This is the best person we can run against Hillary? A flip flopping Clinton and liberal democrat supporter who buys off politicians and changes his beliefs like Kind Kardashian changes clothes?

Sorry, but I will be bringing up Trump's past with the Clintons, it's fair game and if Trump didnt want it to be brought up then he shouldn't have been hob knobbing with them through the 90s and 00s.

Just proves that he stood by Republicans when it was popular to do so. In the 80s Reagan was loved, where was he in Obama's first term or during the Obamacare fight? When did he stand up for conservative principles when we were being bashed in the 2000s? When did he speak out against the corruption of the Clinton machine when he was benefiting off of it in the 90s and 00s?

Were you happy when Pelosi took up the gavel in 2006, setting up the congress that would ram Obamacare down our throats?

Well Donald was...

Concern yourself with your own relationship with the Lord....this world already has enough self righteous, holier than thou hypocrits as it stands.

I second that. Pictures of Trump with Reagan are great.

Hillary is to the war on women as Romney was to Obamacare--the worst candidate possible to push an issue. Hillary has the press to help her but Trump has himself. No contest.

I continue to believe that the Democrat nominee will not be Hillary. Something will happen that forces her out of the race. It won't be Sanders, either. Someone will step in, after the Republicans have spent a lot of time and effort attacking Hillary. We will see.

Well, according to erod, they're meaningless because Trump took them 'when it was popular to do so', but of course the exact same statement can be made concerning his pictures with the Clintons, or his congrats to Pelosi in the immediate aftermath of a losing Republican campaign before Obamacare was forced through.

I don’t trust Trump either and much prefer Ted Cruz myself.

But if Trump is the nominee, I will take a gamble and vote for him in hopes he will do what he says he will do.

What have got to lose? We know Hillary will be hell. If Trump is a liar and carries out a liberal agenda, he will be no worse than Hillary. If he is being truthful, we will benefit.

Keep fighting for Ted Cruz, but if Trump is the nominee, support him and hope for the best.

Has anyone seen the Trump documentary on the history channel? This guy is the real deal. I mean he is very smart and one or two steps ahead of everybody. He may be a silver spoon but sure knew how to turn silver into gold. What does Hillary have to show for her years in politics? Trump has the skills to lead this country into something better than it is right now.
