Obama's plan to tighten gun laws sets up rematch with powerful gun rights group NRA

The National Rifle Association, the country's most influential gun-rights supporter, is challenging President Obama's new plan to use his presidential power to tighten firearms laws, calling it a "political stunt" that fails to increase public safety.

President Obama said this weekend that he'll meet Monday with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss his "options” toward curbing gun violence, after ordering his White House team several months ago to identify "new actions" that he can take.

The president also said that he's taking action because Congress has failed to act. He is expected to use so-called executive orders to tighten federal laws -- with a focus on small-scale firearms sellers and background checks for gun buyers, according to Politico.

"President Obama failed to pass his anti-gun agenda though Congress because the majority of Americans oppose more gun-control," NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said in response late Saturday. "Now he is doing what he always does when he doesn't get his way, which is defy the will of the people and issue an executive order."

Well, as critical as many of us have been of the NRA, myself included, it would seem that now is the time for them to step up and earn their keep.

Just axin' because I don't happen to know, does Chris Cox still have a job with the NRA?

LOL. Nice pocket gun. Looks a bit hard to hold and only for rather close quarters.

The fight this time may actually be directly with the people the NRA represents.

Wonder if their money would be best spent on behalf of strong 2nd amendment candidates?

“Shall not be infringed” should be tattooed on Obama’s forehead.

May as well put your faith in Paul Ryan or Mitch. The NRA backed Harry Reid. They are every bit the problem and nothing more than a pressure relief valve to give false hope.

for the record obama is the problem and the tattoo would serve no purpose unless he is in his coffin

The president also said that he's taking action because Congress has failed to act.

Congress has failed to act, dumbass obama, because our Constitution says "congress shall make no law restricting..."

“it would seem that now is the time for them to step up and earn their keep”
How much money have you donated to their “keep” that you can make such a demand?

-—The NRA backed Harry Reid

Was Reid anti-gun? I don’t think so.

http://www.ontheissues.org/Domestic/Harry_Reid_Gun_Control.htm

Voted YES on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers.
Voted YES on prohibiting foreign & UN aid that restricts US gun ownership.
Voted NO on more penalties for gun & drug violations.

Other measures were anti-gun..

So he got a ‘B’ from the NRA. Reid was a totally corrupt slimeball but he reflected his constituent’s wishes and was not consistently against the right to bear arms. That’s why the NRA supported him. Which is what I expect from a single issue organization.

Do you ever post anything positive about anybody?
