Karl Rove, who served as an adviser to former President George W. Bush, warned Republicans that nominating Donald Trump could be a death wish for the party.
In a Wall Street Journal column published Friday, Rove acknowledged Trump's consistently strong standing among Republicans in the polls, and the impressively high percentage of backers -- 46 percent, according to a recent Quinnipiac poll -- who say they won't stray from Trump before the primaries.
Hitting Trump for his antics -- citing the Republican presidential candidate's beef with Fox News host Megyn Kelly and insults of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for being captured in Vietnam -- Rove lamented that there's seemingly no line Trump can cross to lose the backing of his loyal supporters, who "eat up stuff like that."
But in a matchup against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the general election, Rove wrote, Trump would get "creamed." He called Trump a "dream candidate" for the Democratic Party.
"Although Mr. Trump's antics may not drive away his current supporters, they make him unlikely to win the White House," he wrote.

This is just the talking point so they can justify a brokered convention when Trump wins the primaries.

Exactly.
Here he is.
"Verrrry interesting....but stoopid."
Jeb can't beat Trump but Jeb could beat Hillary? Not likely. First Jeb would have to have a message that resonates. He doesn't. And Jeb would need credibility - which he doesn't have. And Rove can't lend him any.
Having said that, Karl Rove aka Jabba the Hutt is pissed off because he and many others in the Potomac camp followers beltway uniparty fraternity will be on the outside looking in since they won't have paying jobs as either Trump campaign consultants or in a potential Trump administration. And this is their bread and butter and it's the only trade they know and they have mortgages to finish off and kid's school loans to pay. Panic! Hey. One's own rice bowl first. America second.
It hits home in a real way.
Ergo, they are PISSED.
Trump (or anybody else) is going to change that. The Clintons and the Democrats used to control the media. Now Trump not only controls the media, he also controls the political topic of the day/week...including terrorist attacks.
Trump phones it in and twitters, they answer the phone and post his twitters. He has them all on speed dial.
Cruz (YAWN!) goes to some little known Christian station, newspaper or the lesser known FR resident Cruz propagandist and challenges them to a debate.
Why does anyone even asks Rove’s opinion when he’s never right about anything. Must have contract with Fox that they can’t break.
Once they begin, there will be an anti hillary trump thump about every three days. Hillary bad news will dominate the media in a continuous variable stream. There will be no end to it.
On the contrary, the left and the media has protected the Clintons for 20 years now. The basic meme is:
"Well, yes, Bill is a rogue who admittedly lied about sex (which everybody does], but he was a great president who gave us a great economy. Hillary is the most experienced candidate running -- co-president, senator, secretary of state.
"They have been unfairly maligned by the evil, racist, war-on-women waging Republicans for two decades."
I do think that Trump, and maybe Cruz, are the only two who would not be intimidated by PC-based fears of offending female voters by attacking Hillary with the truth about the Clintons..
I can assure all Hillary has no desire to go into debates with Trump. That would be her worst nightmare.

Perhaps. But trump’s appeal is intrinsically designed for the labor left, Dammocraps who are protectionist and, by conclusion, anti-immigration.
trump has a natural base in the dammocrap party, and I could see him “evolving” on issues like abortion, homosexual marriage, etc., to broaden that appeal: “I’m personally opposed, I think it’s AWFUL, but who am I to impose my morality? ‘Who am I to judge?’” “I think it’s wrong, but it’s the “law of the land,” so I must enforce it. No choice.”
And he’d gain millions more votes.
He may be the Great Deciever.
He could very well win.
Mr. Rove, we did it your way the last two times. Look where it got us.
He would. Surveys have shown that if Hillary is the candidate, Trump is the one against she would have the most decisive win.
This is because about 1/3 of people who poll as Trump voters are Democrats...But when push comes to shove in the general election, they’ll still vote Dem.
The Dallas Morning News did a long series of expose type articles about Karl Rove way back when. I wish I could remember exactly when.
I resented it bitterly at the time because the DMN is such a liberal rag and New York Times clone and I hated them for it.
Maybe they were onto something.
From Rove, you magnificent bastard! To Rove, you bastard!
WHAT does Rove & Chris Christie have in common. YEAH they bought got creamed, in other words Krispy Creme (FAT!) )-:
Please, Hillary Clinton is not Bill Clinton and her negatives will not get better, only possibly worse.
Many people know little of Trump except what others say and few are paying attention now. When gen elec campaign begins in earnest Trump will be seen by many more people and he, unlike Clinton will have opportunity to define himself.
Did they do it for Carter in 1980?
Could be. I’ve never been a fan of his, though.
