Before bashing Trump's Muslim ban, read poll showing many Americans likely agree with him

Donald Trump's incendiary – and likely unconstitutional – suggestion that the U.S. prevent Muslims from entering the country has set off a firestorm with criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

That hasn't slowed Trump, who is leading the GOP presidential pack.

"We have no idea who's coming into our country," Trump said during a Monday night campaign rally in South Carolina. "We have no idea if they love us or they hate us. We have no idea they want to bomb us. I have friends who are Muslims, they're great people. They know we have a problem.''

In announcing his proposal, Trump cites a poll from the Center for Security Policy showing a 25 percent of the Muslim population agreed that violence against Americans is justified as a part of the global jihad. Those findings are controversial, but another poll shows many Americans likely believe they are true.

The Public Religion Research Institute 2015 American Values Survey found that 56 percent of Americans said the values of Islam are at odds with American beliefs and way of life. Almost six in 10 white Americans feel that way, as compared to 48 percent of blacks and 46 percent of Hispanics. The highest percentage of those that agree with the statements are white evangelical Protestants, 73 percent of whom said Islam is incompatible with the U.S. way of life, though a majority of every Christian religious group said they feel the same.

People's feeling on the matter are strongly influenced by their political leanings, the poll shows. Three-quarters of Republicans (76 percent) and 77 percent of Tea Party members think Islam is at odds with the American way of life. While the poll shows support among other political groups is smaller, it's still considerable: 57 percent of independents and 43 percent of Democrats agree ...

I keep imagining Trump sitting with advisers to formulate this announcement, at least since Paris.

This was not an "off the cuff misstatement".

It was very, very shrewd politics.

A MAJORITY of all Americans support it.

It's also legal under current law, and clearly Constitutional.

The GOP shows themselves not worthy of any votes outside what Trump will garner.

All Trump is demanding is that the United States Citizenship and Immigration (USCI) services, located at the website pf the Dept. of Homeland Security, do what they say they do (below), particularly since another Democrat pinhead has just proposed the other day setting up another feather-bedding layer of security—a Czar of some sort to work with the FBI, DIA, CIA, NSA and the Dept. of Homeland Security which oversees the USCI, which oversees ICE which oversees TSA which ....:

http://www.uscis.gov/aboutus

“U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the government agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States.

Mission Statement
USCIS will secure America’s promise as a nation of immigrants by providing accurate and useful information to our customers, granting immigration and citizenship benefits, promoting an awareness and understanding of citizenship, and ensuring the integrity of our immigration system.

We are the 19,000 government employees and contractors of USCIS working at 223 offices across the world. Achieving our goals becomes possible when the different elements of our organization are engaged and acting as partners working toward a common outcome. USCIS’ strategic goals include:

Strengthening the security and integrity of the immigration system.
Providing effective customer-oriented immigration benefit and information services.
Supporting immigrants’ integration and participation in American civic culture.
Promoting flexible and sound immigration policies and programs.
Strengthening the infrastructure supporting the USCIS mission.
Operating as a high-performance organization that promotes a highly talented workforce and a dynamic work culture.
Core Values
Integrity
We shall always strive for the highest level of integrity in our dealings with our customers, our fellow employees and the citizens of the United States of America. We shall be ever mindful of the importance of the trust the American people have placed in us to administer the nation’s immigration system fairly, honestly and correctly.

Respect
We will demonstrate respect in all of our actions. We will ensure that everyone we affect will be treated with dignity and courtesy regardless of the outcome of the decision. We will model this principle in all of our activities, with each other, our customers and the public. Through our actions, this organization will become known as an example of respect, dignity and courtesy.

Ingenuity
As we meet the challenges to come, we will strive to find the most effective means to accomplish our goals. We will use ingenuity, resourcefulness, creativity and sound management principles to strive for world-class results. We will approach every challenge with a balance of enthusiasm and wisdom in our effort to fulfill our vision.

Vigilance
In this era of increased global threats and national security challenges,we will remain mindful of our obligation to provide immigration service in a manner that strengthens and fortifies the nation. We will exercise a holistic approach to Vigilance as we perform our mission. We will carefully administer every aspect of our immigration mission so that new immigrants and citizens can hold in high regard the privileges and advantages of lawful presence in the United States.”

If they can’t do their job and screen-out a murderous Islamist terrorist like the one that just shot up San Berdoo, there should be a moratorium on all muslims.
I would take it further and suspend all immigration until our southwestern border is secured.
The ICE folks and the Department of Homeland Security should be concentrating on protecting US citizens, not on “respectfully” processing and checking-in a high-volume of immigrants and refugees who hate our guts and wish us harm.

I don’t agree with Trump. We should expand the ban to everyone until we can get this fixed.
