ERROR: I misread the publication date. It is 2004 not 2014. This is a bit dated.

The only caliber I have absolute confidence in is the .45 ACP. Everything else is second best.

Yet another study in which the 10mm doesn’t seem to exist.

Liberty Ammo is, IMO, better than any of the tested ammo on those charts. Low-grain loads, far less recoil, much faster fps, massive cavity damage, very easy to double-tap...

Watch the gel tests; plenty available on YT.

When it comes to handguns, in the end it is all about placement - Practice, Practice, Practice!

No mention of hydra-shocks. Segmented head with a steel center post.

Be aware that selection bias may be a factor in these statistics. If the people who carry .45 ACP (or a particular load such as its Rem 185gr Golden Saber at 96%) are steely-eyed killers, or tend to work for an agency that emphasizes firearms proficiency, that caliber may have better stats than the .45 ACP Rem 230gr FMJ at a mere 62%. Explanations other than caliber/load include shot placement, training, proficiency, or even the situations in which its users choose to shoot.

Still, I’ll go with the .45 ACP over the .38 special, and with a load that reliably stops the threat over a load with under 50% success, because these results look plausible and well researched.

Hollow-point seems to beat FMJ in almost every caliber.
