Calling Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trumpâs stance on the topic âdisqualifying,â Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul said on CBSâs âFace the Nationâ Sunday that he opposed government surveillance at mosques and establishing databases to track Muslims.
âYes we should follow people who are a risk,â Paul said. âShould we talk to their neighbors and friends, should we talk to their imam? Sure, all of that is legitimate, but should we target mosques and have a database of Muslims?
âAbsolutely not, and I think thatâs disqualifying for both Donald Trump and Marco Rubio to say that weâre going to close down every place that potentially has a discussion that might lead to extremism. That would require some sort of religious czar that I think isnât consistent with our freedom.â
Trump raised both policies on the campaign trail and television interviews this week in light of terrorist attacks carried out by Islamic State militants in Paris that left 130 dead Nov. 13.
On Thursday, Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio said during an appearance on Fox News that any place âwhere radicals are being inspiredâ should be shuttered.
Paul, polling 10th in the GOP presidential field according to an average by Real Clear Politics, also touched on a bill he filed to halt new U.S. visas for citizens of countries with jihadist movements.
That follows calls from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for President Barack Obamaâs administration to âpauseâ the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the U.S. and reexamine the procedure.
Paul pointed to a pair of Iraqi refugees who were arrested in Bowling Green on terrorism charges in 2011 and the 2013 Boston Marathon

The fed records my phonecalls, monitors my emails and views me, as a Constitutionist, AS a terrorist. But somehow, magically, they get a pass, though their faux-holy book says they may lie to me, and that they SHOULD be pursuing the overthrowing of my government. Makes no sense to me. Muslim in Chief likes the ideas though.
Rand Paul probably hopes that President Trump will hire him for some cabinet post, but it’ll never happen.
Rand is just as nuts ( maybe more so ) than his insane hypocritical father.
To be fair, Rand Paul objects to those things as well. I'm not voting for him and he needs to distance himself from McConnell, but he is not as hypocritical as your post might imply.
Yeah, is there something in the water in Kentucky? One $hit and one Twit for their Senators. Sure hope Bevin doesn’t make it a threesome!
You’re right; we are all being watched—especially since 9/11.
In fairness though, to Paul, a Libertarian, any surveillance is anathema.
Calling THE MEDIA'S FALSE REPRESENTATION OF Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump's stance on the topic "disqualifying", Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul said on CBS's "Face the Manipulation" Sunday that he opposed government surveillance at mosques and establishing databases to track Muslims.
Rand Paul thus tacitly admitted that he doesn't know dick about databases, because Muslims are already tracked.
The mosques were monitored when Guiliani was mayor.
I’d leave him where he is. It’s a Peter Principle thing.
#JLM
If we cannot monitor mosques and religious groups then fed gov shouldn’t be able to monitor ANY militia group EITHER, right Paul?
No wonder alfalfa ain’t getting much traction in the primary he sticks his foot in his mouth too damned much.
You really think Libertarians need a enema? ;-)
"...the Movement must plan and struggle to obtain "the keys" and the tools of this process in carry out [sic] this grand mission as a 'Civilization Jihadist' responsibility."
“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers…”
“A list of our organizations and the organizations of our friends” - This is where the Muslim Brotherhood listed its front groups in the U.S.. Note that prominent organizations like CAIR, ISNA, ICNA and others are named here.

Rand Paul should inform himself.
Good. So what.
Well, they seem to have no big problem putting constitution loving, veteran, TEA, Gadsden flag wavers in a DHS database.
