Ann Coulter made a guest appearance on The View to promote her latest book Adios, America: The Leftâs Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third World Hellhole. Since Coulter has built an entire career on the shock value of her political opinions, it is not surprising that this interview was filled with controversial statements about immigrants, and a questionable presentation of United States history.
A couple minutes into the interview, host Ana Navarro challenged Coulterâs views about immigrants by asking if her family immigrated to America. Coulter responded to Navarroâs question by stating that she is actually a Native American because she descended from the early settlers who founded the United States.

Technically the “first” Americans killed off the previous “first Americans,” then we came in, took the land, and now they run Casinos and star in movies being all spiritual and close to the land.

She’s more Indian than Elizabeth Warren, that’s for sure.

If by “America” one means the United States thereof, anyone whose ancestors were here prior to the formation thereof is a Native American. My wife’s family (Chippewa) were here long before my ancestors, but both groups were present prior to the founding of The United States.

She never said “Settlers”, which would be stupid in the context she used but, she comes off as an officious snob pronouncing it “Sett-lerrrz”.

I've always maintained that I'm Native American too. My 10th Great Grandfather was founder of Salem, Massachusetts, and the first English Governor of Massachusetts, John Endicott.
On the other hand, I have 1/16th Native American blood from an indiginenous native on my mothers line. . . through another ancestor, through which I am related also to Christopher "Kit" Carson. (My father's middle name was Carson because of that relationship.)

I checked the native american box on the last census.
I was born here.

My ancestors never founded a damned thing.
They went and sold guns and liquor to the indians.
Because they were buying.

That reminds me of the “native American” nonsense. The Indians didn’t consider themselves “Americans” until the 1900s.
Using the “native” American logic, today’s Italians are really Romans.

My ancestors were chased out of almost every country in Europe.
I break out in a sweat every time I see a pitchfork or torch.

Hey! My ancestors from Switzerland landed in Philadelphia on November 9,1750. They had to renounce their germanic past and swear allegiance to King George 3rd.
Does that make them, and me, Native Americans?

I changed my mind. Coulter and all other Americans are native Americans. Indigenous Americans should not be called Native Americans.
