If by “America” one means the United States thereof, anyone whose ancestors were here prior to the formation thereof is a Native American. My wife’s family (Chippewa) were here long before my ancestors, but both groups were present prior to the founding of The United States.

Hey! My ancestors from Switzerland landed in Philadelphia on November 9,1750. They had to renounce their germanic past and swear allegiance to King George 3rd.

Does that make them, and me, Native Americans?

Both sides of my family, the Foxwell and the Parks families were early settlers in the Richmond colony in the mid 1660s. I am a settler, not an immigrant. I am of settler stock as much as any people who came to this land to settle it and build a culture.
Ann is absolutely and completely correct.
