Hey! My ancestors from Switzerland landed in Philadelphia on November 9,1750. They had to renounce their germanic past and swear allegiance to King George 3rd.

Does that make them, and me, Native Americans?

I would think so if the metric is one of ancestors here before the formation of the United States.

If it is before the Spaniards and Italians (specifically Amerigo Vespucci) stumbled on the Continent, then I guess we'd have to trace it back to the Vikings or the Welsh, or the other groups who may well have been here.

And in renouncing their Swiss ancestry they embraced their Germanic future!

From encyclopedia Brittanica:

“George III was the son of Frederick Louis, prince of Wales, and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha.”

He married a german Princess.

“Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (born May 19, 1744—died Nov. 17, 1818), queen consort of George III of England. In 1761 she was selected unseen after the British king asked for a review of all eligible German Protestant princesses.”
