Letter from RNC Chairman Reince Priebus to NBC News (Feb Debate Suspended)
Republican National Committee ^ | October 30, 2015 | Reince Priebus

Posted on 10/30/2015 9:59:44 AM PDT by abb

Mr. Andrew Lack Chairman, NBC News 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, New York 10112

Dear Mr. Lack,

I write to inform you that pending further discussion between the Republican National Committee (RNC) and our presidential campaigns, we are suspending the partnership with NBC News for the Republican primary debate at the University of Houston on February 26, 2016. The RNC’s sole role in the primary debate process is to ensure that our candidates are given a full and fair opportunity to lay out their vision for America’s future. We simply cannot continue with NBC without full consultation with our campaigns.

The CNBC network is one of your media properties, and its handling of the debate was conducted in bad faith. We understand that NBC does not exercise full editorial control over CNBC’s journalistic approach. However, the network is an arm of your organization, and we need to ensure there is not a repeat performance.

CNBC billed the debate as one that would focus on “the key issues that matter to all voters—job growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy.” That was not the case. Before the debate, the candidates were promised an opening question on economic or financial matters. That was not the case. Candidates were promised that speaking time would be carefully monitored to ensure fairness. That was not the case. Questions were inaccurate or downright offensive. The first question directed to one of our candidates asked if he was running a comic book version of a presidential campaign, hardly in the spirit of how the debate was billed.

While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidates’ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBC’s moderators engaged in a series of “gotcha” questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidates’ policies and ideas.

I have tremendous respect for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. However, I also expect the media to host a substantive debate on consequential issues important to Americans. CNBC did not.

While we are suspending our partnership with NBC News and its properties, we still fully intend to have a debate on that day, and will ensure that National Review remains part of it.

I will be working with our candidates to discuss how to move forward and will be in touch.

Sincerely,

Reince Priebus Chairman, Republican National Committee

The Trump effect?

Check out the entire stage now. Suddenly their all trying to speak and act Trump like they really mean business...Boy they've sure gotten really tough lately eh? I am really enjoying this farce.

This is being 100% generated by Trump!

Thank you Trump!

The idea I saw floated was for two debates, with seven randomly selected candidates in each. Strikes me as a weak platform, but the leading candidate need the lower ranking ones united with them in a show of solidarity against the RNC.

Debate was also being sponsored by National Review. Everyone there seems to loathe Trump.

The Trump Effect is YUGE ;-)

Disappointed that it’s the UofH debate. Maybe the new debate, in the Trump/Carson team discussions can take it’s place.

THAT would be glorious!!!

If it were Jim DeMint, that would be great. NOT if it has anything to do with Heritage’s new director Michael Needham, though. He is, unfortunately, mostly establishment, so far :(

Yeah, you’d think anyone with half an IQ point, unlike Lather Reince RePriebus, would know the media is full of left wing idiots. Especially at anything NBC.

What a total moron.

Don’t you mean “The Cruz Effect”? Ted Cruz is the one who initially called out the moderators, not Trump.

**********

So far Cruz is no part of the anti-RNC rebellion. It is being led by Trump, Carson, Jindal and, of all people, Graham. Also signed on so far are Fiorina, Huckabee, Paul, Rubio and Santorum.

So, there’s that ;-)

Actually the debate was the best thing to happen to the RNC in a long time! Candidates found their backbones and I do credit Trump for leading by example going into this campaign season.

Contrary to your belief, the RNC did not acquire a new set of testicles.
The candidates spoke after this last episode of Lib/Prog Media bushwhacking and decided amongst themselves they were not going to put up with this kind of democrat crap any more.
Renched Pubius was not even invited to the meeting of the candidates reps this Sunday; he just jumped in before the meeting with his little note to try to stay relevant.
The RNC has proven over and over again in the last several election cycles that they don't care what the Republican, conservative base of the party cares about or wants to see in a candidate.
The RNC is just there to push the status quo inside the beltway and keep the gravy train running.

Trump didn’t take on CNBC.

It took a conservative, Ted Cruz, to do that.

"Suspended"? I guess if he outright said "canceled indefinitely," it would mean Hillary would have given up a whole testicle.

Quote from letter: "I will be working with our candidates to discuss how to move forward and will be in touch."

I read that as "Once I convince these chumps (i.e. candidates) I'm on their side, I'll come back to brown nose and lick NBC's boots once again."

Awesome. I think our candidates (minus Jeb, of course) are in full rebellion mode.

More likely it’s “The Cruz Effect”. Cruz’s attack of media and moderators was inspired, inclusive, and correct.
