Mr. Andrew Lack Chairman, NBC News 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, New York 10112
Dear Mr. Lack,
I write to inform you that pending further discussion between the Republican National Committee (RNC) and our presidential campaigns, we are suspending the partnership with NBC News for the Republican primary debate at the University of Houston on February 26, 2016. The RNCâs sole role in the primary debate process is to ensure that our candidates are given a full and fair opportunity to lay out their vision for Americaâs future. We simply cannot continue with NBC without full consultation with our campaigns.
The CNBC network is one of your media properties, and its handling of the debate was conducted in bad faith. We understand that NBC does not exercise full editorial control over CNBCâs journalistic approach. However, the network is an arm of your organization, and we need to ensure there is not a repeat performance.
CNBC billed the debate as one that would focus on âthe key issues that matter to all votersâjob growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy.â That was not the case. Before the debate, the candidates were promised an opening question on economic or financial matters. That was not the case. Candidates were promised that speaking time would be carefully monitored to ensure fairness. That was not the case. Questions were inaccurate or downright offensive. The first question directed to one of our candidates asked if he was running a comic book version of a presidential campaign, hardly in the spirit of how the debate was billed.
While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidatesâ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBCâs moderators engaged in a series of âgotchaâ questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidatesâ policies and ideas.
I have tremendous respect for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. However, I also expect the media to host a substantive debate on consequential issues important to Americans. CNBC did not.
While we are suspending our partnership with NBC News and its properties, we still fully intend to have a debate on that day, and will ensure that National Review remains part of it.
I will be working with our candidates to discuss how to move forward and will be in touch.
Sincerely,
Reince Priebus Chairman, Republican National Committee
Yeh he’s running scared now because of the impending Sunday evening meeting that he is not invited to. Sucks to be Rinse.
Just theater. I don’t believe a word Rinsed Plebus says.
In other words, CNBC, NBC, whoever botched the smear job that they were hired to do, and now the GOPe is in full blown panic mode.
It is about time that the main stream media was not only called out on their Saul Alynsky tactics but held accountable.for these conscious decisions. The media has been in bed with the Democrat party since the days of Kennedy. Fortunately talk radio and the internet have served to end their strangle hold as the purveyors and discriminators of the narrative. The american public now has alternatives to the completely biased behavior of these petulant children.
Don't forgot when Reince wrote to RNC donors: "Mitt has really nice hair."
Whatever OAN is it works for me! I’d still like to see the venue changed to Hillsdale College.
So far Cruz is no part of the anti-RNC rebellion. It is being led by Trump, Carson, Jindal and, of all people, Graham. Also signed on so far are Fiorina, Huckabee, Paul, Rubio and Santorum.

How about we fire the RNC!
Wrench Prepuce should be immediately fired.

Finally it occurs to folks this idiotic practice of “throwing GOP candidates to the wolves”? Yeah. I’ve been there.
I’m beyond crying you a river... beyond EVER claiming “victim status”... but for y’alls edification, I sure don’t remember all this GOP outrage and the establishment’s conscience leading to rescue attempts at THAT time. It’s sweet how life goes on anyway
NBC has responded with a statement, basically saying “Good luck winning Hispanics without us and TELEMUNDO”
Priebus or moebius or whatever should resign as this is one of his most important duties. I am shocked that no one (other than Freepers) has not called for his head.
Carson and Trump are the ones that forced this. See post #5.
Better than nothing, but the call to NBC to cancel the February debate should have happened 5 minutes into the CNBC debate.... Not days later, after everyone had already condemned it so you would be safe to follow.
Republican’s are flat out afraid to lead. Timid little rabbits trying to play bloodsport.
You're right and Cruz was unbelievably good!
However, how Trump has changed this is he brings ratings. If he sits out a debate the ad revenue is nothing. If Cruz sat out a debate all the rino's would try to take advantage of it and go ahead with the debate.
What I'm hoping for is some good business sense gets interjected. The top 6 candidates should do the debates themselves, buy the TV time, sell the ads and split the profits or give them to charities. Shift the power away from the party and "objective moderators".
Hispanics would be a more potent bargaining chip if most were not already committed to voting Dem.
“If you boycott us they won’t vote for you.
Oh, and kindly ignore the fact they weren’t going to vote for you anyway.”
It’s Skynet becoming self-aware.
Seriously I don’t know what it is. I’m seeing it in phone browsers, PC, Mac, everywhere.
I think some universal update that has cross platform applicability is the culprit. What that could be I have no idea.
