Last night during the CNBC primary debate, Donald Trump, who to this point in the campaign had been the Republican candidate most closely aligned with the conservative grassroots on immigration policy, seemed to have altered his message in several significant ways.
Breitbart News documented some of these changes here.

Excellent!
If Trump would remain consistent on this, and not go back and forth, this one issue could take him to the White Hut. But he needs to be consistent, study the issue, and counsel with Jeff Sessions, Steve King, and Roy Beck of NumbersUSA.
Ouch. Sizzle.
Looks like Rubio knocked something out of the park. His constituents :-O
Exhibit A - Disney’s IT employees sucked and deserved to be fired:

“November 26, 2013, 10:59 AM · Disney’s MyMagic+ system isn’t working as the company planned, and that’s beginning to affect to Disney theme parks’ plans for the next few years.”
LOL!
So only foreigners can do the job?
Exhibit B - Disney IT sucked and needed to be fired.

“Drat that Mouse’s IT Team. They took a useful tool that was simple to use & quick to respond and turned it into a LUMBERING BEHEMOTH THAT MAKES A SNAIL LOOK LIKE A CHEETAH!!!!”

“If you change the webpages, add pretty pictures, and add to the complexity, members will not notice, as much as they did before, that the system often does not work right. Disney has done that successfully in the past with all of its webpages that often do not work right.”
When I heard him, I heard that we want the strong, smart, hard-working, educated immigrants - but Americans come first. He’s said that a hundred times.
He’s *always* said that American’s come first. Then LEGAL immigrants. Of those, the best and the brightest.
People cherry pick the lines, drop the next line, and leave an ‘impression’.
That’s why I actually watch his speeches for myself. The headlines are rarely honest.
Didn’t say that.
But Disney didn’t move to replace their IT dept to save bucks. The dept was in serious trouble and had been for awhile. Disney hired a contract company to bail out its IT dept and that company performed several projects on time under budget and most important, compared to their in house IT, finished products that actually work.
So. Disney greatly expanded its contract with the company and that company went looking for H1Bs.
Orlando is a very unique employment area. The amusement park industry there hires something in the neighborhood of 200,000 employees. Disney alone hires something like 95,000 employees in the Orlando area.
This is why Disney recruits other workers, like hospitality guests, from all over. There isn’t enough of a labor pool in Orlando for all the jobs needed.
I’m going to go hunt and find a very long discussion on this very issue: how the labor shortage for the kinds of jobs needed in the amusement park industry in Orlando affects potential future growth...
There’s more than one side to every story and the bottom line is Disney IT needed to be fired. The IT dept was costing Disney hundreds of millions of dollars in magic band system overruns and underperformance alone.
A day late and a dollar short.
Good for Trump... he gets it...
We do not need a single H1Bb visa. If we have a shortage of engineers then businesses will compete for them. Their salaries will rise. Attracted by that rise, more students will enter the field. And the market will balance itself.
It will level.
So bloody what if (real) engineers end up making $200k a year? They make things that make life better and make all workers more efficient. People’s lives frequently depend on their skill and good care. Let our large internal market determine what they are worth and stop hiring people who do nothing but ship their wages back home.
It’s ok to pay a CEO 20 million a year but not pay an engineer $100k? Give me a break.
You want to properly tax the rich? Stop supporting cheap labor - whether it is through H1B or illegal border crossings. Because they are the only ones who benefit from it over the long run.
I’m not saying they didn’t need to be replaced but was any effort made to hire American workers?
What would they have done had H1b’s not been an option?
That is what Trump is saying in his policy. H1B’s can’t be hired just to save money.
“H1Bâs are supposed to be temporary and not replace American jobs. Thatâs fine except weâre not tracking them.”
No doubt intentional. The employers breaking the law re: H1B visas are in doubt huge contributors, so no prosecution.
This needs to change. Since Trump has no use for donors, maybe he will change it.
And if the H1B employers are not breaking the law, the law needs to be changed.
Here’s a very long and interesting discussion about the difficulties of hiring in the Orlando area:
http://www.disboards.com/threads/disney-why-the-tdo-footprint-constraint.3289198/
I remember reading not long ago that Disney did hire them back...I don’t recall where I read it, though...sorry.
Disney went with the contract company they were using and had success with.
So. You’ve got a local company, in an area where there is already saturation for the kind of employees you need, suddenly expanding their contract exponentially.
Where are the Orlando IT workers familiar with theme park applications that didn’t already have jobs?
What happens when you sell 200 widgets a year and suddenly Walmart asks for a long term contract for you to make 10,000? That is essentially what happened.
I read it on his website from 2 years ago. Some said he knew it wouldn’t be approved and added it as an amendment to the gang of eight immigration bill to show the hypocrisy of the bill.
not saying i believe it, i dont know.
There was NO WAY the amendment was gonna be passed.
or i could be wrong. happens often :)
unless Trump and Cruz are competitive at the end, i will vote for Trump.
