GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump claimed credit Sunday for Ford Motor Company's plans to move a production plant from Mexico to Ohio.
Trump has been calling out Ford during his campaign, saying the automaker plans to move jobs from Michigan to Mexico, but Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who also is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, says the move from Mexico to Ohio had nothing to Trump's demands. "The truth is that Ford began moving jobs back to Ohio four years ago under the leadership of Governor John Kasich," the governor's campaign said in a statement to the press on Sunday night.
"Our country needs real leadership and not empty, false rhetoric," Kasich said. "Working as a team, we brought Ford production jobs back from Mexico to Ohio years ago. That's how things really get done. Hard work and teamwork brings results for the people."
When Kasich announced Ford was bringing the jobs to Ohio in 2011 the vice president of Ford North America Manufacturing said it was "enabled by the Governor and his strong leadership," the campaign noted.

Ah. Thanks. It sounds like Trump has it wrong.
I have seen that video before on this site. Who is she?
So, is it “itch” or “ick”?
There are two Ford issues on the table, and I’m not sure everyone understands that.
Ford Truck were being made down there. That production line has been brought back to the U. S.
Ford was planning to move some vehicle construction down there. That was stopped and is instead being moving to Ohio.
Yes, I know there are two issues.
First, there was the truck production that Ford moved back to Ohio. That is the production that Kasich was responsible for.
Second, there is the transmission plant (two plants, actually) that Ford is planning to build in Mexico. That is the plant Trump has been criticizing, and those plans have not changed. That plant is still being built.
“Trump would take the credit for a flower blooming.”
LOL! Probably true, but he has accomplished a lot. There’s people with just as big egos that haven’t done much.
Kasich should have jumped in and said he already brought Ford jobs back when Trump mentioned doing so. He was in that same debate. And mentioned the balanced budget and Ohio feats - 2 or 3 times. Now, with the timing and Kasich’s silence, the appearance is that Trump accomplished it.
Lying about what?
I never heard Trump taking credit for Ford moving jobs back. So you’re making something up that he didn’t say, then calling him a liar for saying it? LOL, that’s some spin! You must be dizzy.
But he did bring everyone’s attention to Ford’s moving them out. As well as sanctuary cities. And crimes that illegals commit.
Before Trump, those things weren’t even discussed.
Well, he did say:
Word is that Ford Motor, because of my constant badgering at packed events, is going to cancel their deal to go to Mexico and stay in U.S.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 25, 2015
Do you think I will get credit for keeping Ford in U.S. Who cares, my supporters know the truth. Think what can be done as president!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 25, 2015
And he re-tweeted:
"@DanSaltsman: @realDonaldTrump @Ford @crainsdetroit @detnews @CNBC https://t.co/k2JFVTDDbW Do you think Hillary, Ben or Jeb could do this?— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 26, 2015
"@hoosierclinger: Good job @realDonaldTrump for badgering Ford. Why didnt POTUS or Hillary care about those UAW jobs in Ohio?"— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 26, 2015
So, yeah, he pretty much is taking credit for Ford moving jobs back. To spin and say that he was saying anything else would require Clintonian levels of parsing words.
And the jobs that didn’t leave were for making low-volume big commercial trucks, not the popular F150.
Ok, I’ll give you that one ;) I honestly didn’t know.
Whoever does the work should not get credit, just the one who claims credit fist and loudest with the biggest megaphone? Seriously? Trump is a far better candidate than Kasich, but that doesn't change the fact that Trump tried to claim credit where he deserves none. It was a stupid thing to say, but apparently that doesn't matter to many.
Wait a dog gone minute. I’m confused. The insinuation is that Ford’s CURRENT PLANS TO BUILD IN MEXICO are being changed. WHERE DO YOU SEE THAT TRUMP IS TAKING CREDIT FOR JOBS RETURNING TO OHIO FROM MEXICO IN 2011?!!!!!!!
Exactly put! Is Kasich trying to take credit for that?
IIRC, Trump’s been hitting Ford about this for months.
Kasich just looks like the weaselly little worm at work who tries to grab everyone else’s credit.
Yes, the insinuation is that Ford's current plans are being changed, but the only source for that insinuation is an article that is about Ford's previous decision to bring jobs back to Ohio. There is ZERO evidence that Ford has changed its current plans, and in fact, Ford has stated that they still do plan to build the plant in Mexico.
Trump is using one Ford decision that he had nothing to do with (move some jobs to Ohio) to take credit for another Ford decision that has not happened, and likely will not happen (cancel plans to open a massive plant in Mexico).
Except that's exactly what TRUMP is doing, not Kasich. There is nothing for Trump to take credit for here - Ford has not cancelled its plans to open a massive plant in Mexico (which is what Trump has been hitting Ford about for months). What Ford has done is move some jobs (specifically, the production of a couple of their commercial truck lines) back from Mexico to Ohio. THAT decision was made as far back as 2011, and the move was completed in August of this year.
I think the rest of the field simply views Trump as Marcia Brady
That’s not Trump’s style. There must be something else, like a “rumor” that they’re not going to build there.
Why did he sit on his butt and let Ford go to Mexico until Trump brought it up?
Taking credit for anything and everything he can is, most certainly, Trump’s style.
And, look at his tweets/re-tweets. He re-tweeted a link to the article that wrongly cites the Ohio move as support for the conclusion that Ford is cancelling its move to Mexico.
