Longtime political strategist Karl Rove is warning Republicans not to nominate a presidential candidate that reflects the same "populist anger" that gave birth to the rise of Donald Trump.
In his latest op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Rove explained the GOP will have two choices when delegates gather in Cleveland, Ohio, next July to determine which remaining Republican hopeful they wish to see challenge Democrats in the general election.
"Will the party choose a nominee with a conservative agenda or one reflecting populist anger?" Rove wrote.
"The two are hardly the same," he noted. "Conservative principles provide a winning path to the White House. Populist outrage alone will end in defeat."

Show me where populist rage has accomplished something
Gun control legislation post-tragedy? assault weapons ban? that count?
Thank you SonTagged.
Good comments there.
While I agree with them all, I’m not quite as willing to state them as you did. I think you are accurate in stating it as you did, but I hedge more than you.
I think Cruz will make a good V. P. That’s what I’m hoping for. I try not to trash him, not that I think you’ve been unfair, because I know why you said what you did.
Take care.
Hey, it is what it is.
I don’t keep tabs on people. I don’t even remember who said it now.
People can say some pretty dumb things and a few years later cringe themselves.
Besides, maybe their medication is better balanced these days. LOL
C. Rove wants a loser!
We of the populist outrage don’t believe the GOPe has legitimate conservative credentials. They have proved it repeatedly. They are simply lying, AGAIN. They are people who believe in big money & big government.
Karl, you have only yourself to blame for being the architect of that anger. The chickens are coming home to roost, idiot Karl.
I dont know what the rules are beyond the first vote at a convention. If the GOPe derails Trump, it could be the end of the party.>>>>
i think that is why it is important who the delegates are. so the don’t go wobbly. I think this is the job of the ground game.
Populist rage may get rid of the illegals, the EPA, and bring in lower taxes. I call that a good start. :-)
I wrote a simple program for consultants to drain money from the donor class:
5) until (date = 2017)
10) speak Maybe if we try this....
15) wait 5day
20) speak Durn. Trumps still winning.
30) email Heres my invoice.
100) goto 10

Yeah because we wouldn’t want to actually represent we the people who make up this country, now would we Karl
= :^)
Or I could do what you are doing which is yelling and screaming and making no sense
Oh, OK, since it’s the “architect”, I’d better switch from Trump to Jeb...
I’m not yelling or screaming, I’m telling the truth, something that you obviously can’t handle.
Go hide from the monsters under your bed kid.
I was thinking of the populist student protesters from my youth, I also think of the populist Black Power movement and the newer version :Black Lives Matter, Or Ross Perot and his brand of populism or the populist group that swept Obama into power.
Please pardon me for thinking
I know its not popular on FR any more.
If you decide to take it up (thinking) we might have a conversation
You never know, that might be the idea!
Collusion!
That would not surprise me.
FU Rove.
