Even though it's a stance not especially popular with some Republicans, Donald Trump continued to support eminent domain in an interview on Tuesday, calling it "a wonderful thing" that has unfairly received a bad rap.
Trump, a billionaire known for his major real estate development projects, described eminent domain as a useful tool that local governments can use to prevent greedy homeowners from derailing major projects that could create thousands of jobs or provide a public good. Trump said that some conservatives don't fully understand how eminent domain works and don't realize that homeowners are usually paid "four, five, six, ten times" what their property is actually worth.
"Eminent domain, when it comes to jobs, roads, the public good, I think it's a wonderful thing," Trump said during an interview with Fox News's Bret Baier that aired Tuesday evening. "And remember, you're not taking property you're paying a fortune for that property."
Trump's support of eminent domain, along with his use of the practice professionally, has prompted some criticism from conservatives.Republican presidential rival Rand Paul has slammed Trump over his eminent domain views, calling the mogul a big fan of the practice who has shown no consideration for small private property owners."
The super PAC for the Club for Growth, a fiscally conservative advocacy group, recently aired television advertisements in Iowa that accuse Trump of supporting "eminent domain abuse" that would allow him to "make millions while we lose our property rights." Trump said the Club for Growth's attacks have come only because he refused to donate $1 million to their cause. He added that the spots are "not right" and do not accurately explain eminent domain.

Yeah he can take property for our own good at the same time he takes our money to give to ethanol producers.
Its for our own good don’cha know.
Whether the homeowner is offered some compensation or not is immaterial. If they don’t want to relinquish that property and the local government ultimately seizes it a la the Kelo action, then we’re no longer living in a free country.
Confiscation = you get nothing
Forced sale = you get compensated per Constitution
“YOU JUST ALL BUT DID.”
But I didn’t. Stop putting words in my mouth. Straw man is for the weak.
“You all but said confiscation of private property for private projects can be overlooked as long as the supporter of such confiscation will secure the border.”
Again more words in my mouth. That would be a pretty foolish thing to say.
I disagree with him on this...but he’s owning up to it and not trying to come up with some mealy-mouthed way of sliming his way out of it with pc bs. That’s what you call a straight shooter in my book.
Trump’s supporters have now decided that eminent domain is just great. The Donald said so, so it’s true. Ask no questions!!
So I assume you’re fine with a Spanish-speaking society and all of the “benefits” that come with that?
I grew up in México...Chihuahua to be exact. Lady neighbor of ours was raped, reported it to the Police, and what does the Police Chief do? He rapes her too! (((True story)))
Great society!!!!! Welcome aboard illegals!
More straw man.
I don't think that's the word you want.
You never really owned it anyhow... stop paying its taxes and you will find that out quick
Then take your liberal keister to a Third World country where they don't have Constitutional rights, and be happy.
My realtor buddies always tell me the true value is what a buyer and seller agree to, not what the seller, or buyer individually opines to.
The way I understand it, Trump wanted to build something someplace and attempted to obtain the land in question. The landowner refused the offer so Trump availed himself of the court system. Maybe he succeeded, maybe he didn't. I don't profess to know how the situation turned out. But it was up to the courts to determine whether or not the project Trump was attempting to develop was a valid case of "public use" or not.
Can't fault a businessman for pursuing all legal avenues to achieve an objective. We all remember this past summer when Trump wanted to take his helicopter to the Iowa State Fair so he could give free rides to children. The Iowa State Fair denied him permission to land his helicopter on their grounds so Trump made a deal with an adjacent landowner. We all cheered Trump for finding a legal way to get what he wanted and we all said that this is the kind of can-do spirit we need in Washington.
Which they haven’t, but hey it is so fun quibbling isn’t it.
Sorry to rain on the Trump gauntlet, but The Donald says he’s in favor of eminent domain, Trump is `right’: “eminent domain” is the law of the land.
5th Amendment
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;
**nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.**
What chaps Americans’ butts is the taking of private property for private use, and understandably so since it is unconstitutional.

Why don’t you boycott this first world country and be happy? I’ll gladly buy you the permanent ticket out.
I’m not a big fan of eminate domain. Its very hard to take. That being said as a property owner living in an area consider prime commercial or widening roads and carving into my yard! It’s a double jeopardy situation. You get screwed either way! I have a business across the street from me and I fought against it. I live in a prime commercial area only because I face a highway.
Ah yes... Ann “Romney’s my guy” Coulter...
Paying taxes with what?
Ain't that the truth?
