Obama authorizes resupply of Syrian opposition

President Barack Obama authorized the resupply of Syrian Kurds and the Arab-Syrian opposition as part of a strategy to put pressure on ISIS from the north and strengthen the border, according to two senior administration officials.

The approval came at a National Security Council meeting on Thursday.

CNN reported over the weekend that the President also emphasized to his team that the U.S. would continue to support the Syrian opposition as Russia enters the war-torn country.

"President Obama was clear that we intend to continue our efforts to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL in Syria and to keep supporting the moderate Syrian opposition," the official said, using another name for ISIS.

While Russia has said that it is conducting military operations to wipe out ISIS, U.S. officials have questioned that aim given that many of its airstrikes have not targeted places ISIS is active. Instead, they have seen the effort mostly as a move to bolster close Moscow ally President Bashar al-Assad.

The latest U.S. assessment of Moscow's activity in western Syria indicates Russia has moved several ground combat weapons and troops into the area to potentially back up Syrian forces in the field planning to attack anti-regime forces, according to two U.S. defense officials.

Wait. Didn’t we support the “rebels” in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia and they turned out to be worse?

The Levant specifically includes Israel. No surprise that Obama prefers ISIL to ISIS, which does not mention Israel.

waste of money. putin will just bomb all as soon as it gets there.

btw, trump is right about us being better off if Gaddafi and Hussein had been left in place: this ISIS crap wouldn’t have happened. Obama tried this in Egypt and failed because the Egyptian military were smart enough to see what was happening and tough enough to put a stop to it.

Which is why obama must want to see Assad destroyed: gives the radical Muslims even greater power and territory to control and destabilize the ME even more.

Just the current “rebel” pressure on Assad alone has caused the invasion of Europe by millions of “Syrian refugees” and has guaranteed their destruction within a generation by radical Muslims.

The Russians are trying to head off the invasion of THEIR country too by propping up Assad, and it’s even more amazing to see the Russians were smart enough to cozy up with the Israelis to a degree because obama and the feckless Jewish Democrat voters and Congressional representatives in the U.S. have left a vacuum there as well.

Obama and Putin should have a wrasslin match to settle this. Make it a 3 way match with a Bear representing ISIS (ISIS Barry, not “ISIL”).

Because ISIS and Assad don’t have enough superior American equipment, arms and ammo.

I don't believe Putin is too concerned w/ ISIS right now, he wants to make sure Assad is secure.

Our problem is we have no identified goals. Is it to topple Assad or defeat ISIS? The difficulty is telling "our" guys from the bad guys, and in fact they're all bad guys.

While those items are not mutually exclusive, either one will require far more energy and resources than Obama is willing to commit, and by dithering between the two, we're making negative progress in both directions.

IMO, screw Putin, let him get bogged down in a civil war that will only get uglier and uglier.

From what I’ve been reading, it seems the Russians have two major goals, right now.

The first is opening the road to Damascus for resupply, and them cutting off ISIS from it’s main source of supply and oil sales, TURKEY.

No problems with what you stated; measured military support to Putin, no problem (even though I wouldn’t trust the KGB son of a b*tch as far as I could throw him) as long as he is indiscriminately killing ragheads.
The Middle East needs a steady hand and Obunghole is a pussy.
Better the Russians than some jihadi, 7th century savage that Obunghole would put in there.

http://www.pri.org/stories/2014-04-01/one-toyota-pickup-truck-top-shopping-list-free-syrian-army-and-taliban
2014

Recently, when the US State Department resumed sending non-lethal aid to Syrian rebels, the delivery list included 43 Toyota trucks.

Hiluxes were on the Free Syrian Army’s wish list. Oubai Shahbander, a Washington-based advisor to the Syrian National Coalition, is a fan of the truck.

“Specific equipment like the Toyota Hiluxes are what we refer to as force enablers for the moderate opposition forces on the ground,” he adds. Shahbander says the US-supplied pickups will be delivering troops and supplies into battle. Some of the fleet will even become battlefield weapons.

Our Jerk-in-Chief wants to resupply ISIS, IMHO.

No doubt. ISIS is the mussel for the Saudis.
