GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Governor Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency for all 100 counties ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Joaquin -- a category 4 storm.
Were hoping for the best, but hope is not preparation nor is it a plan, Governor McCrory said. Ive ordered all state agencies to begin preparation for the severe weather, particularly flooding, that is going hit just about every corner of the state during the next few days."
McCrory asked that everyone stay away from flooded areas because most storm-related deaths are due to drowning.
Regardless of the impacts of Hurricane Joaquin, North Carolina has the potential for life-threatening flooding, cautioned Franklin Perry, the public safety secretary. We want everyone to remember to Turn around, dont drown.'

Preppers’ PING!!
That means nothing.
The storm is going to do what it’s going to do and it’s foolishness to not be prepared.
My first degree is in meteorology, Writing that, I was predicting the track would swing east and I have been shaking my head reading the predictions of the end of the World by supposed weathermen and the press. I have been reading about historic rainfall amounts and how everything was going to fall apart.
I am sick and tired of the new breed of weathermen (I refuse to call them meteorologists, as they are not)who play Chicken Little so they can get notoriety and allow themselves to be used by the worthless, uneducated, leftist press.
I’m in central Virginia. We’ve had over a week of rain already; today and tomorrow will be heavy rain and high winds from this tropical moisture being pulled in. I will be so glad to see the sun again.
Let me tell you, I am thanking God for turning that hurricane away from the coast...it’s an answer to prayer. Otherwise I don’t know where all the water would have gone.
If a "state of emergency" is issued so casually by government authorities every time the wind blows or the rains falls, what are we going to do in the event of an authentic emergency? We are reaching a point where many people, myself included, pay little heed to anything coming from government.
They're saying another 6" of rain this weekend - not sure if it's hurricane related or not. That'll make things problematic, especially in the mountains.
But, I don't disagree with you that we're a nation of frightened wimps. I'll gas up the cars today, we already have plenty of food and water socked away. We'll just hunker down for the weekend, and that'll be that. Not too much to get excited about.
That’s the nature of pecan trees. We constantly lose big pecan limbs for no other reason than it’s Tuesday. There’s a reason why there’s an old saying about never camping under a pecan tree.
Hurricane "Walking", really? Hurricanes don't walk, they blow.
I live here in High Point. I agree this weather has been very nasty. People might get some local flooding or some trees down. It’s a mess, but not an emergency.
When the state government declares a “state of emergency” this gives government authorities extraordinarily powers and limits the freedom of citizens. A few examples of this:
1. concealed-carry may be suspended
2. sales of alcohol may be suspended
3. government controls prices of goods in stores
4. police are given extra powers
5. the sale, storage or transport of gasoline may be restricted.
6. the government can control the movement or congregation of the populace
The “state of emergency” declaration should not be issued lightly. Citizens should be aware that their freedoms are curtailed during such a period in that the government assumes almost dictatorial powers. This is not just a matter of over-hyped pres reports, but real infringements on our everyday freedoms.
I thought it odd that here north of philly that the wind is coming from the north. so I will keep checking here to see where the wind is going. Drizzling here.

Surf’s up! Get out the boogie boards.
Except make french toast. :)
Remember to store the REAL maple syrup. Brown sugar water is unacceptable!
A river flood ruined a nursery business on the Biltmore estate decades ago. People died in that flood too.
“C’mon McCrory...we are not babies.”
Ahh, no. Many people are babies when it comes to preparing and I’m glad the officials make it sound bad. With hurricanes, one doesn’t know what the final path will be and I know many thousands in the Texas area don’t do one thing until the day before or do nothing. Immediately there are lines of people wanting water and food.
I hope you don’t get too much water around your place.
I hope you don’t get too much water. Be careful, I will be thinking of you.
Thank you, my dear friend.
Hurricane Joaquin has turned in the opposite direction, so we won’t be hit after all, and thank God for it. The heaviest rain and the highest winds are supposed to come through during the night, and that will be the worst of this tropical system. We’re cautiously optimistic.
All in all, plenty to be thankful for. But I’ll be so glad to see the sun again.
Under the state of emergency weight restrictions for trucks hauling agriculture have been lifted.
This is a damn good thing because it’s prime harvest time for soybeans, peanuts and sweet potatoes. The longer those crops sit in the fields the quicker they will rot given the biblical rainfall totals.
Joaquin means “Lifted by YAHWEY.”
Look at the radar map now!
Charlotte is getting ready to get hit BIG TIME!!
