1] The Roman Pontiff claims for himself [in the first place] that by divine right he is [supreme] above all bishops and pastors [in all Christendom].
2] Secondly, he adds also that by divine right he has both swords, i.e., the authority also of bestowing kingdoms [enthroning and deposing kings, regulating secular dominions etc.].
3] And thirdly, he says that to believe this is necessary for salvation. And for these reasons the Roman bishop calls himself [and boasts that he is] the vicar of Christ on earth.
4] These three articles we hold to be false, godless, tyrannical, and [quite] pernicious to the Church.
5] Now, in order that our proof [reason and opinion] may be [better] understood, we shall first define what they call being above all [what it means that he boasts of being supreme] by divine right. For they mean that he is universal [that the Pope is the general bishop over the entire Christian Church], or, as they say, ecumenical bishop, i.e., from whom all bishops and pastors throughout the entire world ought to seek ordination and [confirmation, who [alone] is to have the right of electing, ordaining, confirming, deposing all bishops [and pastors].

Yes. Not only is that true, but the first prototype church at Jerusalem for modeling by all was baptist, as were all the first independent local immersionist fundamental assemblies as planted by the apostles, and recorded in the New Testament. Conversion of many to state-owned churches came much later, after the influences of the apostles diminished and were supplanted by Gentiles clinging to their Platonism, applying its principles to the religion, and displacing the gospel of salvation by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, and transmitted by the Holy Spirit-breathed Scriptures alone.
It couldn’t be more clear. Like the Pauli principle: mutual exclusion. They wouldn’t give up nor modify their Romanism. I’m presuming Scotland?
Who is “we?” You named a bunch of assemblies, but not the one that is generally accepted to have coined the term “Roman” Catholic; that being the Anglican church...And my general impression of you folks in that you don’t like Anglicans much either.
Did your general impression also admit to you that I am a christened and confirmed Anglican ???
You might want to keep that under your hat. Your side more frequently lumps Anglicans in with Catholics than accepts them as fellow manifestants.
How many divisions does the Pope of Rome have? —STALIN
I’m on the side of the LORD Jesus Christ..
whose side are you on ???
Actually it was at my Anglican Church that I learnt how different the Roman Catholic beliefs were to the truth of the Bible..
What in the H-E-double hockey sticks are you TALKING about?!! What’s your point?!!!
Thank-you and God Bless.
At this present time when this nation is in trouble, this is the LAST thing this forum and society needs.
No kid it was when the word catholic in the Apostles Creed was being explained to me..why we were part of the catholic (universal) church but not the ROMAN catholic church as the ROMAN catholic church was something else different and alien to the words of the LORD Jesus Christ and directions of the Bible to the universal Church of Christ..in other words he Roman catholic church is pagan...
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of Heaven and Earth:
And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into Hell;
The third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The Holy Catholic Church;
The Communion of Saints;
The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body,
And the Life everlasting.
Amen.
oh and as Protestant..I believe in TULIP..
but I repeat myself..
Um... God said that all debts were to be erased every SEVEN (7) years.
OK. Then which church should we take our disagreements to, as Jesus instructed us? If not the (one) church that Christ founded, which one?
And if no such doctrinal authority exists, Christ's words would be void and meaningless, which is an impossibility, since He is God.
If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
Whenever the topic turns to Catholicism, I am amazed at the depth and scope of bigotry and the abundance of ignorance on Free Republic.
No wonder that the secularists are in ascendance in America, when one sees the “Christians” spewing their hatred on these pages.
Well it seems like our disagreements over global warming has been decided by the Roman Catholic pope...
of course the LORD Jesus Christ didn’t found the global warming heresy..
but then neither did He found the Roman Catholic Church...
Because TDUELAIGPOTS doesn’t sound quite as pithy?
