Technically it’s always been an orientation. From the shrink perspective whatever it is that floats your boat, no matter where it falls on the “blandly normal” to “wait what?!” scale is your sexual orientation. And yes that includes serial killers. Been that way for a long time.
And as for this guy, so long as he doesn’t act on it it’s not a problem. Well probably a problem for him, it must really suck. But he knows it’s wrong and he’s not acting on it, so it’s like my urge to shoot all the morons on the road: unacted on so we move on.

I kind of view it in the way that many police investigators that deal with serial killers view such things, after you have to stay immersed (or even aware) of the foul deeds such individuals engage in, it is a vexation on your soul, you want to take a bath in bleach daily.

You’re right FRiend. As much as it would be preferable to never hear about this stuff, the same behavior in Nazi Germany by the civilian population is what led to the feigned ignorance of the death camps. They knew what was going on, but they refused to open their eyes.
