It would be unconstitutional to disqualify a Muslim from the presidency because of religion, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Sunday.
You know, the Constitution specifies there shall be no religious test for public office and I am a constitutionalist, the Texas senator said during the taping of Iowa Press at Iowa Public Television.
Cruz was about Ben Carsons televised statement that Islam is inconsistent with the U.S. Constitution. I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that, Carson said on NBCs Meet the Press.
Cruz also referred to the ongoing controversy raised in the media over whether Donald Trump should have corrected a man who incorrectly stated at a rally that President Obama is a Muslim and not an American. My view, listen. The presidents faith is between him and God. What Im going to focus on is his public policy record, Cruz said.
One area in which Cruz did not mind excluding Muslims, however, was from the ranks of refugees from Syria seeking asylum in the United States. He said they should settle in other Middle Eastern countries, citing concerns that some of the purported refugees may actually be terrorists.
I think the Christians are a very different circumstance because Christians are being persecuted, they are being persecuted directly for their faith and the Obama administration has abandoned Middle East Christians, Cruz said.
Several other Republican presidential candidates weighed in on the issue of Syrian refugees Saturday during a forum in Des Moines. Mike Huckabee agreed with Cruz that the U.S. should exclude Muslim refugees but accept Christians. Rick Santorum argued that even the Christians should be assisted in the region so they can return home when the violence ends.
Following his visit at Iowa Public Television, Cruz visited with restaurant-goers at the Machine Shed Restaurant in Urbandale for more light-hearted discussions while Iowans enjoyed their morning brunch.
I have no problem with Ben Carson’s statement. In fact, more than a few of our founders believed that the constitution was based on Christian truth and the Christian men should be favored over others who were not.
If that is true, shouldn't that tell you something?
With Muslims there wont be any constitution dumbass

Must be 5 Muslims on the Supreme Court, eh?
Ron, trust me, honey. You couldn’t do anything to make me pant.
Of that I’m completely certain. :)
Wrong wrong and wrong. Cruz joined 98 other traitors in voting to strip the Senate of its treaty power by passing the insanely unconstitutional Corker amendment thereby ensuring easy passage of the illegal Iran treaty.
TPP has not yet come up to Congress; and he has read both the TPA and the proposed TPP.
Cruz supported the unconstitutional TPA which surrenders the treaty power of the Senate and ensures the passage of the illegal TPP treaty.
Correct, it does not exist in the Constitution. It was a fabrication to suit what was perceived, erroneously, as a rising political trend conceived in the Wilsonian sense as a constitutional “evolution.” Since then, the increasing tide of people seeing such clear pictures of children in the womb has wrought an increasing awareness that what abortion actually is is murder of a person, albeit one in the womb. In the meantime states have increasingly recognized that inflicting death upon a child in the womb is murder and, except for the murder of federal officers or in interference with witnesses in federal legal proceedings in the like, homicide if for the states to define and punish, not the federal government. One day Roe v. Wade will be seen as another Dred Scott decision.
Also, this is all he said “Oh absolutely, no problem with that,” Trump replied. “Would I consider putting a Muslim-American in my cabinet? Absolutely, no problem with that. OK?” There was not a quote about that he loves them.
There are five now who to my knowledge are not muzzie, and if you are aware of how they stand and vote, there is no constitution now.
You are really starting to have a smell....
VinL, when a reporter tries to change the nature of the comment Carson made, you call them on it. So no, I’m not particularly interested in the question. You move the topic back on point.
“This is not a matter of Constitutionality so I will not address your question which was designed to take us off point.”
“We do not want Islamic adherents for our presidents for at least the time being, and Dr. Carson was exactly right!”
“Mr. Obama, Islamic adherent or not, has made it perfectly obvious why we do not and should not want Islamic sympathizers in the White House.”
You don’t let them lead you off on a Constitutionality question. CAIR would love that, because it moves the focus off a very important point, NO ISLAMIC ADHERENTS in the White House. PERIOD.
bingo
We should all love the Muslims and that is why we should preach the gospel to them and pray that they leave that Satanic cult. They are on the road to Hell and it is our calling to try to convert them from their evil religion.
Islam is still not a religion but rather a hate-filled ideology bent on destroying the West. That would have been a better answer for Cruz to give. Cruz is still my choice-but the media is hell-bent on trying to undermine all the GOP candidates and are having some success.
It’s unconstitutional for the GOVERNMENT to have a religious test. It’s not unconstitutional for the VOTERS to have any test they please.
Absolutely agreed!!!
I looked at the article online being referenced 3 times and Trump never said he loves Muslims. Actually it was a pretty good write up for Trump.
You are really starting to have a smell....
