Post-Debate Poll: Trump Increases Lead; Fiorina Leaps, Carson Sinks

A Morning Consult poll, released Friday, surveyed 504 registered voters who watched Wednesday’s Republican primary debate and has only good news for Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina. While the poll’s sample size is small (with a 4.4% margin of error), the poll’s trend is worth noting.

In this same poll, prior to Wednesday night’s debate, Trump sat at 33% support. Dr. Ben Carson sat in second place with 17% support. Today Trump enjoys 36% support. Carson is still in second place but with just 12% support.

Trump’s lead increased from +16 points to +24%. That’s an +8% jump.

With their shared status as outsiders, it appears as though Carson’s support went to Fiorina. Prior to the debate the former-Hewlett Packard CEO had just 3% support. She now sits in third place with 10%, only -2 points behind second place Carson.

She is a long time member of the Chamber of Amnesty block. That cripples her like it does Bush and Rubio.

It was bright of her to capitalize of Carson’s inevitable collapse by bringing planned parenthood to the fore.

But she isn’t going to be able to hold all of Carson’s former supporters in a cycle focused on illegals.

Actually it looks about like I thought it would. A little surprised that Trump went up. I figured he would stay the same. Trump/Cruz ticket for me.

which is why the likes of MSNBC are promoting her, plus she is socially liberal and will end up being told by the establishment what to do.

The only candidate who has sustained a high ranking in the polls is Trump. The rest seem to be going through the 2012 Candidate-of-the-Month cycle.

I'd say that the race is now wide open, except for Trump being the odds-on favorite.

I'm really looking forward to the debates when the field is whittled down to 4-6.

“Has Jim Gilmore dropped out officially? No-show at the debates....”

He had an important business meeting, trying to get some gas money. Things didn’t work out.

Carson’ performance the other night was weak.

I like Trump but wasn’t impressed with his performance.

Did you notice that every Republican blogger except for Anne Coulter trashed Trump in their responses to the debate. That includes everyone at National Review, Jewish World Review and Town Hall that had comments on the debate today.

He has performed surgery on babies in vitro to save their lives. The tissue in question was comparative tissue with tumors etc that he had removed. Do believe that Dr Ben takes his Hipocratic Oath to heart. Hes a good man just not presidential material.

Seriously WTF were they thinking when they selected Jeb as their guy. And Romney the election before that and McCain before him.

I honestly think they don’t want the Presidency because if they win there they will lose House and Senate seats.

In addition to all the valid concerns you named, Fiorina has a very cozy relationship to Islam. I think most of us have had more than enough of that from the current President.
