Debate Prep: Donald Trump's 12 Radical Campaign Secrets
Forbes ^ | September 13, 2015 | Ralph Benko, contributor

Donald Trump continues to fascinate if likely not, for much longer, dominate.

With the next presidential debate upcoming… what are his secrets?

Richard Fernandez at PJMedia is on to something:

“Everyone who thinks Obama was an Alinsky disciple should watch Trump in action. He understands the Alinsky principle that public events are not about bandying words. They are about creating opportunities for transgressing certain emotional boundaries. It’s about “empowering the powerless”.

Fernandez is on to something. It goes much deeper.

Trump is employing twelve of the thirteen tactics Saul Alinsky set forth in his classic work Rules for Radicals.

Are any of the other 15 Republican presidential contenders ready to throw away their consultants’ stale playbooks? If so there’s a powerful campaign manual hidden inside Rules for Radicals.

It is unlikely that Trump ever read Alinsky. Trump presents as street smart not book smart. And Trump is no Alinsky. Alinsky was an affable, kind-hearted, humanitarian cynic. (Think Rick Blaine at the end of Casablanca.)

Still, they are alike in that Alinsky was and Trump is a provocateur. Alinsky enumerated a baker’s dozen key tactics for that.

Trump employs a dozen of these. Trump, I recently predicted here, almost surely will balk at spending real money on his campaign and lose his preeminence.

Who will supplant him as front runner? The field is fluid. Any contender would benefit by proficient use of Alinsky’s thirteen Rules....

Trump is like the Haleys Comet of retail politics, a firey Nova circling into our orbit only once every eighty years.

Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins—or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom—Lucifer.
—SAUL ALINSKY

Wow I never know that, that is pure evil.

That’s what I was thinking. There is nothing “affable or kind-hearted” about someone who literally dedicates their book to Satan.

This is SO TRUE:

“Trump excels at picking, freezing, personalizing and polarizing his target. He doesn’t call out “our broken immigration system.” He conjures Mexican rapists.”

I remember Palin screaming that our Immigration system is broken and we need to fix it. We all cheered, saying that she was “one of us”.

But she never said how she would ‘fix it’, and McCain/Rubio were saying EXACTLY the same thing - and their fix, of course, was to open the borders.

Much, if not most, of Trump’s support is due PRECISELY to specifics - The Wall, for example, and a dozen other items in his position paper.

to the company that travel is expense. expense is tax deductable. thus, campaign travel increases the bottom line

Trump is a direct product of utter disgust with the GOP.

[No “Hi how ya doin’”, no “Here’s the latest issue and where I stand”, no “Please tell us what you think”. ONLY money begging.]

Having helped with numerous elections over the years, I know what you mean. VERY FEW ever send a thank you for the volunteer efforts made for their success.

To make it worse, they assume we will automatically volunteer when they are up for re-election.

all these fortune tellers predicting the outcome should place wagers and become very rich, not having to write opinions for a living anymore

I wonder if Bill & Hillary are beginning to think about the story line in Murder on the Orient Express.

If When she looses, there will be a lot of angry donors out there!

Unless he can prove that the travel was business related, I'm not sure that is the case. If he can prove business was conducted then he would have to declare the percentage of his business travel. Unless of course he travels to specific locations first and foremost for business and then does campaigning as a side note, then he indeed can write off all of his travel.

But then I am no tax attorney, so I may be all wet!!! LOL

What do you think about Walker’s proposal to do nationally what he’s done in Wisconsin?

But he isn’t doing the normal fundraising necessary to a successful campaign. If you can get a million people to give you $5 each, they’re committed. Those committed donors now form a base for volunteers the life blood of successful insurgent campaigns. That’s how it’s done when you want to win. Trump’s running like he’s going to not win in the end. Like he’s going to Perot us to Clinton.

Businesses spending money on travel does not increase the bottom line. If it did businesses would do a lot more traveling.

Business travel is a deductible expense because it is a cost of doing business.

Truck drivers travel too. They deduct fuel costs, does the cost of their fuel increase their bottom line?

Ignorance on how business works is a huge problem in this country.
