Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush has been out of the state or otherwise off of work nearly half of the time since his father entered the GOP race for president, records show, raising questions about whether the scion is fulfilling his pledge to remain focused on his first elected office.
Personal time - both related to the presidential race and for other reasons - took the commissioner away for the equivalent of 23 of the first 50 work days after father Jeb Bush announced his bid on June 15, according to a Houston Chronicle analysis of records obtained under the Public Information Act. The total includes 15 full days off and dozens of smaller chunks of time off on other work days that add up to eight more days.
It is impossible to tell exactly how much of the time off was spent campaigning, because the commissioner's official calendar does not say what he did in those hours. Social media posts indicate he spent a significant amount of it on the trail, however, speaking at his father's announcement in Florida, publicly stumping for him in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada, headlining a fundraiser in Texas and attending a campaign staff retreat in Maine.

To be fair, what about all of these governors who are running for the White House? Shouldn’t they be at work.
Wow, Jorge is drawing bigger and more attentive crowds than his father.
Someone might get the idea that he doesn’t do anything when he is there.
Trump questions why Lehman Brothers paid Jeb Bush $1.3 million a year for a no-show job
This is a very legitimate question. This family likes their banks.
Jeb’s brother, Neil, was involved in the Silverado savings and loan scandal that cost taxpayers 1.3 billion, but George Sr. was VP at the time so he manage to escape criminal indictment.
The grandfather also had banking connections. Prescott Bush was a founding member and one of seven directors (including W. Averell Harriman) of the Union Banking Corporation (holding a single share out of 4,000 as a director), an investment bank that operated as a clearing house for many assets and enterprises held by German steel magnate Fritz Thyssen.[6][7] In July 1942, the bank was suspected of holding gold on behalf of Nazi leaders.[8] A subsequent government investigation disproved those allegations but confirmed the Thyssens’ control, and in October 1942 the United States seized the bank under the Trading with the Enemy Act and held the assets for the duration of World War II.[6] Journalist Duncan Campbell pointed out documents showing that Prescott Bush was a director and shareholder of a number of companies involved with Thyssen.[6]
So Jeb Bush’s connection to Lehman needs to be investigated.
For Florida taxpayers, the move by the administration of then-Gov. Jeb Bush to forge a relationship with Lehman Brothers would ultimately prove disastrous. Transactions in 2005 and 2006 put the Wall Street investment bank in charge of some $250 million worth of pension funds for Florida cops, teachers and firefighters. Lehman would capture more than $5 million in fees on these deals, while gaining additional contracts to manage another $1.2 billion of Florida’s money. Then, in the fall of 2008, Lehman collapsed into bankruptcy, leaving Florida facing up to $1 billion in losses.
CORRUPT
Almost 2 years of misery he put this family through.
Wasn’t GW BUsh not a TExas land commissioner before he became Governor? Are all the BUshes being groomed for POTUS?
When you say “lazy, stupid, insipid family”, just which family are you referring to? The Bush family entire, or Jeb Bush’s family?
You know, I wouldn’t vote for Jeb Bush; but I was really glad when 9/11 happened, that we had W in the Presidency (especially after the embarrassment that we’d been through for eight years prior).
Even though many of us disagreed with some of his decisions, I think George W. was a very good president for the times - and the problems - that he found himself dealing with. He came from a long line of very distinguished public servants, and had a strong sense of the values which that entailed.
Maybe some of us ‘armchair presidents’ should give up the grudges - and the energy wasted in grudge - and look to the future.
It’s not easy being POTUS; nobody is ever really prepared for it. But some try harder than others, and I think W. did a very good job. His wife was also an excellent First Lady.
(I realize that the position of ‘First Lady’ is not an elected position; but it has a lot of influence in the world when it comes to elevating our culture or debasing it. Again, see the last 6 or 7 years...)
I think we’re all agreed that our Nation doesn’t need another Bush, and certainly doesn’t need another Clinton. I’m merely suggesting that we ditch the insults, and decide WHO we’re going to vote for; and promote THAT person, instead of tearing down the others.
Perhaps Naively,

George W. left the borders open and allowed an invasion of what, 10 million, 20 million illegal aliens to rape & murder our fellow citizens. I got no use for any of them.
Well, who are you going to vote for?
And, when YOU are President, what are you going to do?
-JT
Look....what I said was a fact. What Bush did was an utter disgrace. If I were president I would defend my nations borders...what’s so difficult about that ? How dare this man, GWB, purposely not do his constitutional duty & allow an invasion because he’s got some kind of notion that there should be no borders.
I’ll vote Cruz or Trump & hope they obey the law.
I think we’ve agreed!
-JT
We have bigger problems than rehashing the past.....and Obama was 100 times worse than GWB for that matter. Look what the immigration invasion is currently doing to Europe....they are being erased. That’s why I get so angry. If these third world invasions are not stooped the West is dead.
Everyone is angry these days, and with good cause. But we have to let it go, dig in, and move forward.
Trump/Cruz, Cruz/Trump, either is fine with me.
I don’t see anything better on the horizon; none of the other candidates are inspiring me.
You’re right: no rehashing the past. We have to go on into the future.
There’s not a whole lot that an individual citizen can do; but I think that having a positive perspective - and something to believe in and promote positively - can go a long way.
My Best,
-JT
I agree. It’s not personal. I know W. did some decent stuff....but we are in big trouble & when I see Jeb, well, lol, I’ve had enough of his family.
Honestly, 15 days of vacation is not hard for government employees to earn. You’ve got to use them some time.
Well...families are...Families.
I think we’ve all ‘been there, done that’ :-)
-JT
In what way is that statement analogous to the statement made by George P. Bush?
I’m not sure what triggered me to respond that way, but here is the quote from another tread.
It appears the article linked here, may have changed. I don’t honestly remember now.
