Navy Secretary Ray Mabus criticized Friday the findings of a new Marine report that all-male combat units perform better on a number of tactical tasks than mixed-gender units.
Mr. Mabus, the civilian secretary who leads the Navy Department — including the Marine Corps — has called for the Navy to open combat jobs to women, and said the latest report may have been tainted by negative attitudes from the beginning.
“They started out with a fairly largely component of the men thinking this is not a good idea, and women will not be able to do this,” he said in an interview with NPR.
The report, released Thursday, was conducted over a 9-month period at two separate training camps and is part of a Marine Corps experiment to study integrating women into the infantry in order to meet a 2012 order by then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to open all military jobs, including combat roles, to women.
Services must open all jobs to women by January, or else submit requests for exemptions to Defense Secretary Ashton Carter by the end of this month.

Certainly they matter to us.
I lost a very good friend when the Marines were murdered in Beirut, Lebanon, 1983.
I was there to see his ailing father look at a casket tagged “remains not for viewing”.
Yes, each Marine and soldier is special to me.
Our elected leaders however have no regrets about the life or death of individuals.
To them, service members are pawns to be used and discarded when need be.
I think political leaders should be held responsible for the lives of every service member that serves during their terms in office.
Grieving family members, and friends, try to put the pieces back together even though a key piece of the puzzle of their lives is missing.
Politicians go on to the next deal, the next election.
Nothing changes for them.
Women in combat is just another socialist fantasy that goes way back and has never worked. And just like the communists before them, they have four excuses of why their brilliant religious faith doctrines fail miserably:
1) Not enough funding.
2) Unfair competition, which amounts to any competition.
3) Sabotage.
4) It just hasn’t been done long enough or hard enough.
Importantly, tens of millions of people have suffered, starved and died because of their experiments in failure, and they never, ever learn. Absolute lack of pattern recognition.
After seventy years of this stubborn, bullheaded resistance to abject failure, the Soviet Union was in ruins, a chemical and radiological polluted disaster area. And it still hadn’t persuaded the communists to change their mind one iota.

That means that while Serena might be as much as 5% better than the rest of the female pros, she's still 5% behind the top male players. 5% is a huge gap to overcome when you're talking about the best players in the world.
Jokovic, Federer, Murray, and Nadal are probably 10% better than Serena. The German pro was probably about 5%. That was enough for him to easily trounce the Williams sisters.

If the combat exclusion is lifted will women be assigned to combat arms units as a matter of policy. Having served in the infantry, artillery and also in logistics, I can tell you the average gal ain’t cutting it in the 1/504th PIR.
