Muslim Flight Attendant Says She Was Suspended For Refusing To Serve Alcohol
By Emanuella Grinberg and Carma Hassan September 5, 2015
(CNN)A Muslim flight attendant says she was suspended by ExpressJet for refusing to serve alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith.
In a bid to get her job back, Charee Stanley filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday for the revocation of a reasonable religious accommodation.
She wants to do her job without serving alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith -- just as she was doing before her suspension, her lawyer said.
"What this case comes down to is no one should have to choose between their career and religion and it's incumbent upon employers to provide a safe environment where employees can feel they can practice their religion freely," said Lena Masri, an attorney with Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Stanley, 40, started working for ExpressJet nearly three years ago. About two years ago she converted to Islam. This year she learned her faith prohibits her from not only consuming alcohol but serving it, too, Masri said.
She approached her supervisor on June 1 and was told to work out an arrangement for someone to fulfill passenger requests for alcohol.

Would she serve a homosexual?
How did they know she was Muslim? Was it the bomb belt?
Go Pound Sand Muzz!!
Let’s hear big mouth Josh Earnest chime in on this.
Immediately.
Sorry but we no longer have religious rights in this country.
Obama:
“Whatever we once were, we are no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.”
But is she brave enough to refuse to issue “marriage” licenses to homosexuals? Would she bake them a cake? If she wants to live and work in America, she needs to get with the program. This is Obama’s “merca of the U.S.” now! We’re supposed to do what the government tells us to do or else!
Will she refuse to serve me a pulled pork sandwich too?
What’s next? The Hindu stewardess refusing to serve me steak?
This religious freedom in public services is going out of control.
How can she fly on a plane with alcohol on board?
Can’t wait to hear the WH issue the double-standard so that the ACLJ (not ACLU) can go after them on that, too.
You take a job where a major duty is serving passenger food and drink requests, then you either do it or leave. Don’t take a job and then sue to get out of your job duties. What utter BS that any court would even lie such a ridiculous lawsuit to proceed. We are in rapid decline — pray for America. ( and allowing Muslims on airplanes is just begging for more trouble)
Let’s stay on top of this one guys. And spread it to whomever we can.
I have a RIGHT to LOVE. I LOVE my alcohol and we should not be kept separate.
And I dont want it from another person who doesn’t care if I drink alcohol or agrees with my right to love alcohol.
I want EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY to recognize and ACCEPT my love of alcohol.
If you cannot hand me alcohol you should lose your livelihood!!!! It’s part of your job.
Or something.
Would she had issued a ‘gay marriage license’?
Any free female who converts to Islam has some screws loose.
There is no longer an America as many of us came to know her.
The caveat is that some are more equal than others. It is plain to see. Muslims as a whole are the biggest scourge to society. Even so called moderates will owe allegiance to radicals before conformity within civil homogenous society.
Liberal white Americans are the ones responsible for this sorry state of affairs in this nation. Try Kennedy; Clintons, Obamas.
If she started cutting off passengers heads, would that be discriminatory if they fired her?...........
