Donald Trump announced Thursday he has signed a GOP pledge not to run as an independent in 2016, after a personal appeal from the Republican Party chairman.
"I have signed the pledge," Trump said, holding it up.
The decision by the Republican presidential front-runner helps ease concerns among party leadership that an outside Trump bid -- should he not win the nomination -- could threaten the party's chances in the general election by peeling off votes.
The party began circulating the pledge to virtually all the Republican campaigns earlier this week. But Trump was the obvious concern. He had been the only one who did not raise his hand when the 10 top-polling candidates were asked at last month's Fox News debate whether they'd commit not to mount an independent White House bid.
Trump, after meeting Thursday with party boss Reince Priebus, said the chairman has been "extremely fair."
"I just wanted fairness from the Republican Party," Trump said. After holding up the pledge, he said, "I will be totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party, and the conservative principles for which it stands."

Wouldn’t it be something, if Trump really did turn on his own kind, and with a Republican Congress, radically cut government spending? Imagine the tantrum that the unemployed bureaucrat zombies would throw.
Bill Clinton could hardly have parsed it more deftly.
When Slick Willie does it, it's "lying" but when combover boy does it, it's "great negotiating".......
“But now all Trump has to do is” surprise the government-employed and pensioned commies with deep cuts in spending, layoffs and pension haircuts. It would be easy to do with a Republican Congress. It’s really the only way that he can go. The plan to heavily tax assets may well have been a long term ruse to accomplish the deposition of the government/political/regulator class, because such taxation would not be successfully done. There are too many ways out of it.
Quickly finishing the default process with more debt would be the alternative, with government class folks rioting just the same. But that would stop much international commerce and tie the hands of any president.
“Is the GOP suddenly gonna change the rules so 75% of delegates are selected by them?”......
The rinos are about to take a page from the demodummies play book and change the rules to suit THEM. My guess Trump screwed himself out of the nomination by signing that “pledge”. I don’t trust the rinos one bit. How many have said they were going to fix problems in Washington only to get there and do NOTHING? Do you REALLY trust them? Not me.
I’ve noticed more of an intolerance for anyone who doesn’t hate Trump at least as much as the bashers do.
They smell like Democrats.
