The battle is joined. Ms. Davis is heroic in defense of religious liberty.

The Lessons of Athens
Those who took up arms in Athens, Tennessee, wanted honest elections, a cornerstone of our constitutional order. They had repeatedly tried to get federal or state election monitors and had used armed force so as to minimize harm to the law-breakers, showing little malice to the defeated law-breakers. They restored lawful government.
The Battle of Athens clearly shows how Americans can and should lawfully use armed force and also shows why the rule of law requires unrestricted access to firearms and how civilians with military-type firearms can beat the forces of government gone bad.
Dictators believe that public order is more important than the rule of law. However, Americans reject this idea. Brutal political repression is lethal to many. An individual criminal can harm only a handful of people, but governments can brutalize thousands or millions.
Law-abiding McMinn County residents won the Battle of Athens because they were not hamstrung by “gun control.” They showed us when citizens can and should use armed force to support the rule of law.

It is about Time!!

Jailed?

So a state or federal employee who refuses to perform job function X can be jailed, instead of simply fired?

I don’t understand why fines or other sanctions were not applied instead of the draconian measure of imprisonment.

I’m waiting for them to jail the mayors of “sanctuary cities” for failing to uphold federal law.

But I’m not holding my breath.

In another article I read that she is an elected official, and therefore cannot be fired. She can however, resign.

I’m going to make a rare exception and repeat something I just said elsewhere.

She will not be the last. We will all get to choose between crossing the line we said we wouldn’t cross, or paying a price. Maybe losing a job, or a business, or custody of a child. Or, as in this case, face jail time.

When we choose to stand firm, if we do, we will probably find ourselves standing pretty much alone. Don’t be surprised when it happens.

Wake up. Its game on.

There is no law in Kentucky that allows for gay marriage.

Period.

And a Supreme Court ruling does not make law.

The states have to codify the law.

That has not been done.

This Federal judge as overstepped his bounds.

The governor is a weak willed Dem who won;t do a thing.

It is up to the County Sheriff to blockade the Courthouse until Ms. Davis is released in to his custody.

Right now, the County Sheriff and Ms. Davis are the only ones following the laws of Kentucky.

If there is a bail set she should not have to pay one dime, if there is any decency left in this country.

She wasn't jailed for refusing to perform her job function, she was jailed for refusing a court order to perform her job function. And as an elected official she can't be fired. Only impeached or voted out of office.

Here, let me try it: So a state or federal employee who refuses to report illegal aliens to ICE because they believe it to be immoral and declares the city they administrate to be a haven from federal immigration law can be jailed instead of simply fired? Hmmm...

I don’t understand why fines or other sanctions were not applied instead of the draconian measure of imprisonment.

Because the judge knows there are enough people who support her that would be willing to pay any fines she accrues...
