Out of all the summer coverage about a boisterous billionaire flipping the campaign paradigm and a socialist outsider senator drawing large millennial crowds, there is one candidate for the presidency whos getting less mainstream news coverage despite holding his own throughout it all: Ben Carson.
Donald Trump may draw a crowd of 20,000 in Alabama (a solid showing even as he underwhelmed his own estimate of 36,000), but Carson, with far fewer dollars on hand, drew 12,000 in Phoenix a week ago. Bernie Sanders is drawing crowds of 3,000 in South Carolina, but Carson is getting overflow, standing-room-only receptions in Iowa, Tennessee and Arkansas.
Carson is not only the quintessential non-politician, but hes probably the most anti-political or less politically savvy of political candidates somehow persisting in the 2016 election cycle. And while there is quite a bit of smart prognostication that gives Trump the easy edge (at least) in primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, Carson is still out there as the soft-spoken spokesman of an accidental movement that suddenly can.
Only months ago, rampant speculation supposed his campaign would fizzle into oblivion, the rickety infrastructure cracking under the weight of inexperience from its top guy and fractious silo-fighting within its ranks. Did he even have a campaign?
Surprisingly, implosion hasnt happened just yet. Instead, the retired pediatric neurosurgeon continues thumping conventional theories of his early demise. That he is Black, quietly barreling his way through a Republican primary full of frustrated whiteness, is worth noting (and, perhaps, it amounts to one subtly racist reason he faces snubs from national press caught up in the rabid rage of fist-pounding angry white guys).

Stopped reading right there. 31,000 were confirmed in Alabama and that was only counting those in the stadium.
As for Carson, I like the guy and I think he's a great asset to our side. However, I also suspect that many future Trump supporters are parking their vote with him right now. They want to be on record as supporting a non-politician but not ready to come out for Trump publicly.
Looks for the Carson vote to gradually move to the Trump column as we move on.
But that said, good for Carson. I'm glad to see him doing well and a vote of him is still a vote against Jebbie and the GOPe.
I see it the other way. I think that as more coverage of how close Iowa is for Carson comes out, more anti-politician type voters will gravitate to him because he says things similar to Trump, only with more of a seemingly cool head.
In a Trump Administration, I see Surgeon General as an ideal slot.
Additionally, Trump had over 14,000 in Phoenix.
Carson is not equipped to be President. He would be totally in over his head.
Trump would tramp on all the tulips. We need Ben Carson to HEAL the land. He is a healer, all his life he made sick things well. He could make the sick USA...well again. I’m in.
Prolly my frustrated whiteness but Carson has a “en Espanol” section on his For President site. So does Cruz. Trump does not.
How?

Ben Carson on Gun Control
“Semi-automatic weapons ok in countryside, but not cities. (Mar 2013)”
“I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.” - Donny Trump
Carson has absolutely NO political experience, was a DEM all of his life until ObamaCare hit the fan, has no relationship with nor understanding of working pols and even less re foreign affairs. He'd be an even worse president ( but thankfully he;ll never make it that far ) president than wee barry!
Carson is brilliant but I don’t see him as someone I want to send into a den of wolves. He’s a healer, make him surgeon general.
“WHY ?
Carson has absolutely NO political experience, was a DEM all of his life until ObamaCare hit the fan, has no relationship with nor understanding of working pols and even less re foreign affairs. I can say all these same exact things about Trump.
I see that too or something along those lines- he’s no politician. he has zero/zilch experience. I met him in person prior to his separating the twins (a long time ago) and shook his hand (i was working @JHUHosp within his division . Nice guy & all , very talented in his field. Shame he didn’t stick within the academic field to pass on his knowledge to fledgling neurosurgeons.
I recently learned that if a candidate doesn’t win a majority (not a plurality) in at least 8 states the GOPe rules say his name won’t be placed into nomination on the convention floor. That was done to prevent a bunch of conservatives from pooling their delegates and ensure the GOPe candidate gets in. If nobody gets a majority in 8 states, the GOPe delegates get to decide who is placed into nomination for a vote. It’s crucial that conservatives rally around the candidate with the best chance to actually get a majority, or the GOPe will ignore the voters and pick their guy. Right now, the only guy with a chance is Trump. Unless there’s some major change Carson and Cruz need to drop out throw their support behind Trump, or we’re going to end up with Jeb or Mario.
What’s his stance on immigration?
Or HHS secretary.
I like Surgeon General...the DHHS should just be FIRED!
Carson is brilliant & learns quickly. As far as I’m concerned he would make a great President or Vice President. I don’t see where a few years in the Senate or a Governor of a State makes you more qualified to lead this great nation.
Right now, I’m tipped a little more to Trump for his business acumen, but I’ll take Carson second over any of the others running. And if Trump stumbles for some reason, my second choice is right there. If Trump wins, I hope he picks Carson.
