CNN anchors on Wednesday night hit two Republican presidential candidates on the subject of gun control, wondering if yesterday's horrific shooting in Roanoke, Virginia has prompted them to rethink their positions. Talking to Ben Carson, Don Lemon demanded, "After you watch a crime like this, does it make you question at all the role of guns in our society?"
Carson reminded, "The Second Amendment of that Constitution gives citizens the right to keep and bare arms. Therefore, anything that we're going to do has to be done with respect to the Second Amendment."
The Republican mentioned the opportunity to do harm with knives and bats. CNN Tonight's Lemon reiterated, "...Having a gun offers people a unique opportunity and advantage to kill multiple at a time, to do injury that may be far greater than any of those other instruments that you mentioned."

I posted something yesterday about the anti gunners spending in Oregon vs pro 2nd spending in opposition. Bloomers alone kicked in nearly $800K. Pro gun/background check opponents, around $88K. Add in margabby kelley-giffords and the brady’s and the anti gunners were probably close to a million. Let’s see how much they spend in NV next year.
The right to bear arms is to protect us from the government. Everything else is gravy.
Hey Lemon! It was one of your fraternity that did the shooting! What we need is to ban, or have news control, for news reporters and journalists!
Post of the day. And I am so stealing that.
Not if you have the right knife and know how to use it. Besides, I'd rather get shot with a 9mm round than have someone up close slitting my throat with a razor sharp 6 inch bladed hunting knife.
One offers me the chance to survive. The other does not.
I thought the muzzie on the train’s attorney claims he “found” the AK on a playground someplace. Riiiiggggghhhttt!
Thank you for clarifying a point which drives me nuts.
The basic principles of the Constitution are so poorly understood by so many.
Wait for Carson’s response until he looks up the zip code - after all, that’s how he wants SENSIBLE GUN CONTROL (/s)
Notice it was pretty much the same excuse the Non-American in San Francisco used...
Also you don’t rob a train with 300 rounds of Ammo.
It makes me question why a US Citizen the the natural and legal right to defend themselves would NOT carry a gun.
It’s not stealing because I give it away with my blessing. :-)
This makes me so happy that Carson and Trump are not going to be browbeaten over gun control. Wonderful answer he gave.
See reply #7 of this thread.
There is someone posting as Don Lemon on DU. I wish I knew if it was “Don Lemon” from CNN. If so he should be fired.
Who CARES what Lemon Faggie Thinks!!?
ouch. critically wrong answer. another GOPer who isn’t smart enough to understand or defend our God given right to self-defense and consent to be governed.
i’d rather have the “honest” dem leftist to fight out in the open than an ignorant or closet gun-controller masquerading as a conservative behind my back.
Yes, I believe in gun control - but only for those who abuse their right. So, all Liberals and Democrats turn in your guns. We’ll give them back when you pass a background check and pass a mental test. No exemption for the largest criminal faction going today - Congress.
I agree with post #7. And Carson was right to support the 2nd amendment.
It also offers the ability of person to effectively defend themselves against a larger, stronger and more violent assailant.
Banning firearms reduces self defense to a matter of hand-to-hand combat, where the outcome will be determined by whoever has the advantage in terms of physical brute strength and skill - aka "the law of the jungle".
CNN is doing the full-court press on gun control this morning.

Had to chuckle at Alisyn Camerota on CNN yesterday. She had on 2 guest commentators to discuss the need for more gun legislation/gun control, due to the shootings yesterday morning.
Both guest commentators said basically the same thing: More laws would not have prevented what happened. If a perp wants to get a gun, waiting periods and registration periods are not going to stop them.
Camerota had to pick up the banner and carry the more laws/gun control banner across the finish line. She tried to impose the feelgoodism argument and neither guest bit.
Then, she tried to turn the subject to criticizing Donald Trump for his views on gun control. Neither guest took the bait.
By the end of the segment, Alisyn did not have her happy face on.

The father of the murdered reporter this morning seemed to modify his position today: he said he was not against gun ownership, but wanted stricter background checks to weed out those with mental problems.
—
One reason so many with mental problems get/have guns is due to Liberals who have opposed institutionalizing people with mental problems. When the Libs opened the doors to free the mentally ill years ago, they created part of the problem.
As with many of these kinds of attacks — no law would have stopped them, if the perp really intended it.
None of the relatives/parents of recent killers reported their perp for having weapons, especially guns. Sandy Hook, the Charleston church, the Colorado theater — these all have in common a mentally unstable person who managed to get around any background checks and acquire guns.
