LOS ANGELES, CA, August 25, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – The GOP's leading presidential candidate said that he has been to a gay "wedding" and that conservatives should accept the Supreme Court's redefinition of marriage.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Donald Trump was asked whether the issue of marriage's redefinition is "a dead issue for the GOP at this point."
"Some people have hopes of passing amendments [to the U.S. Constitution]," said Trump, "but it's not going to happen. Congress can't pass simple things, let alone that. So anybody that's making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it."
In June, Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper that he had evolved on the issue of marriage, and supports "traditional marriage." At the time, he was pressed by Tapper on whether Trump's three marriages undermined his position.
"They have a very good point," said Trump. "I have a great marriage. I have a great wife now. And I – my two wives were very good. And I don't blame them. But I was working, maybe like you, 22 hours a day."
"I blame myself because my business was so powerful for me. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing," he said.
Trump told the Reporter that he had been to the gay "wedding" of Broadway theater owner Jordan Roth.
Trump supporters really picked a conservative winner!
And, just which president has annulled Roe v Wade? It’s still legal - last time I looked. Not even the great Ronald Reagan did anything about it. This doesn’t mean Trump agrees with it, but, what can he do about it? It’s very difficult to overturn a SC decision, and right now - we have so much on our plate as a nation to deal with.
Millions of us prayed for the SC to rule in our favor, but it didn’t happen. There are many things we are often made to wonder. Personally, I wouldn’t attend a gay wedding, but, neither am I going to throw stones at others who do. I don’t speak for them, nor do I have to answer for them.
Just saying, I agree with you, "sickened that the SC ruled the way they did, but, I saw it coming." This could have been dealt with after the first appeal in a federal court. Rather than nip it in the bud, SCOTUS allowed the courts that it oversees to promulgate law holding that homosexual marriage is a constitutional right. If SCOTUS thought that was in error, it could have corrected the error when given the opportunity.
The president's view on the subject is irrelevant, except to the extent one sees his morality as affecting his judgment in enforcing federal law and overseeing foreign relations.
Are you serious? You're delusional. Many have said similar things...someone today called him 'the one' - and it wasn't sarcastic. Another several Reagan analogies today as well. It's not even 9 yet. Get some coffee. Read. Learn, Expand your horizons.
You truly are ignorant about the 14th Amendment, aren’t you? Listen to Mark Levin, a constitutional scholar and learn.
Beautiful. Keep ‘em coming.
Is there any candidate that can oppose homosexual marriages now?
It’s just too much of a red-button issue now, and that’s why Big Media WANTS Republicans to get tripped up in it Trump simply said, in effect, he won’t walk into that minefield, there’s other battles to fight.
No candidate is perfect. You’ll never get everything, even Reagan was soft on immigration.
Yeah, we need to understand that the real “battle” is about criminalizing Christianity.
I hope Trump understands this. I doubt he does, though.
I’ve seen no evidence that he has the discernment given through the gift of “Holy Spirit Goggles”.
Ah, another TDS FReak. Keep ‘em coming!
Post 22. Good
Bow down now, the nine Supreme Court justices have ruled!
Another cop out, just like abortion. The SC has spoken so all dissent, all debate must end. Forget that.
Had one fan just insist that since Ike deported illegals in the 50s, it's smart to deport before we secure the border now. Hmmm. Seems like we still have the problem today, don't we? Seems like Ike's experiment PROVES THE BORDER FIRST emphasis.
However, while the issue is important, the only urgent issue is immigration.
Given a choice shutting off the supply of future Dhimmicrat voters, and every other issue that I care about, abortion, “gay rights”, fiscal responsibility, even the global jihad, I will choose getting right on immigration.
It's not that Trump is good on that, he's just tremendously better than anybody else.
Trump is honest about this and he is right
How can anyone think Ted Cruz or Ben Carson will change this USSC decision ??
Now, can a president have an impact on the religious freedom of churches schools and businesses to not be compelled to participate in celebrations of state sanctified sodomy?
Only someone who is not intimidated by PC
Now who would that be
We are awake. We know that the only candidate who can defeat the establishment and kill it is one with media access, personal wealth, and great ability. As much as I like Cruz, the Bush gang had their pieces in place, and all was proceeding in their direction.
Cruz needs to be satisfied with VP, and as a young man, that is probably a great gift to him.
They keep meeting, so my sense is that Cruz is regathering the moral majority and Trump is regathering the Reagan democrats and middle class conservatives.
When Trump/Cruz goes live, they will be unbeatable.
And Cruz will then have the background for a presidential run and/or a Supreme Court seat.
And, yet many make this a one issue litmus test. Not one of the candidates is going to be able to deal with this subject. However, religious liberty rights should be upheld. We are looking at maybe one or two SC seats to be filled within the next few years. Unless we get conservative justices - many things can’t be repealed. I hate abortion too, but not one president since 1973 has tried to do a dang thing about it - So, are these 2 things really a litmus test? Trump will surround himself with good and smart advisers unlike some who are running.
And the Ted Cruz door on Let’s Make A Deal starts to open . . .
In other words, you’ve just been kidding about all this social conservatism stuff all these years. You know, when some of us said that perhaps we should emphasize liberty and limited government...and you called us worshippers of mammon over God and so on - you were all just kidding about that.
Good to know.
Trump: The Savior of America.
