If his momentum keeps up, he won’t need a 3rd party run. He IS the 3rd party.............................

Heck, as far as I'm concerned, he and Cruz ARE the second party. The GOP is toast and they don't even care if they win. If Trump or Cruz gets the nomination, the GOP will torpedo the nominee. They don't want their boat upset and losing to a dem is good enough.

How is this legal?

Primaries exist for the sole benefit of political parties and are a different animal than "regular" elections.

Because primaries are controlled by political parties, they get to make the rules.

You know, the primaries are the parties deciding who their candidate will be in the General Election.

Correct.

So I never understood why primary elections were held using state polling places, under state election laws.

Because the two party system demanded it.

ok then trump should start a third party in these states to compete in the general. i don’t think electoral delegates are required to pledge to a party, but just to a candidate. this could be the chance for the third party we’ve been waiting for.

Many states have sore loser laws. Is this any different?

No he doesn’t. He can go 3rd party at any time. Nothing about filing for primaries keeps him from changing his tune later.

...I generally believe in and intend to support the nominees and platform of the Republican Party in the November 8, 2016 general election

That doesn't say anything about running as a 3rd party candidate.

How stupid! Trump should sign that, as it means absolutely nothing

...if he wants to compete in South Carolina's Republican primary...

Republicans Look to Force Trump to Pledge Loyalty Oath to GOP Masters
The Virginia and North Carolina parties are in discussions about implementing a new requirement for candidates to qualify for their primary ballots: that they pledge to support the Republican presidential nominee...

The proper response from Trump should be, "You First!"

South Carolina just made this change. maybe Trump should say Ientered the Republican race Prior to the implementation of this new rule.

If Trump says ‘no’ and mounts a write-in, the SC GOP could find themselves in a world of embarrassment.

“before he does any damage to whoever the real GOP nominee will be.”

So tell us all, just “whoever is the real GOP nominee?” Inquiring minds want to know! Oh, I know, ABT, right!

‘I intended to support the nominee when I signed that pledge, but the poor choice by the convention to pick a loser has forced my reconsideration of my beliefs.’

Big whoop over nothing.

I couldn’t sign it. I will only vote for Cruz or Trump. If they don’t win, I’ll vote third party.

How can he sign to support the GOP platform when he is against virtually all of it?
His poll numbers are BECAUSE he is against the GOPe.

The GOPe is not synonymous with the Republican Party Platform. There is such a platform. The GOPe act in direct opposition to every plank in the platform.
