Scott Walker recants opposition to birthright citizenship (We have found a waffler, aka Jeb Bush)

After telling an NBC reporter unambiguously that he supported ending birthright citizenship, Scott Walker on Friday changed his mind, saying his new position is that he has no position, that he is now undecided again. He's saying that this isn't a reversal, merely that he misspoke because he was tired.

How do you misspeak support for ending birthright citizenship? Look at this video where he is clearly asked whether he would end it, and Walker says, "Yeah, absolutely." No ambiguity there. This is not a minor, technical issue. This is not a slip of the tongue. Scott Walker was clearly saying last week that he supported ending the mechanism that creates anchor babies. Now he's changed his mind. Here's his position on the issue for August 21st:

“I’m not taking a position one way or the other,” Walker said in an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood. “I’m saying that until you secure the border and enforce the laws, any discussion about anything else is really looking past the very things we have to do.”

I’d previously accepted his change of position from pathway/amnesty (I HEARD him say it in answer to an off camera question, BTW) to no pathway/amnesty, etc. in the span of a year or two....and I have tried not to say anything bad about him. But a noncommittal like this certainly puts him at least number 3 (probably 4) in the list for whom I could stomach a vote. Disappointing.

Walker has been ALL OVER THE PLACE on immigration, amnesty, and related issues.

He seems to know that he is toast if he supports anchor babies, yet he reverses himself...just as he did when he (privately) told a bunch of his money-men that he really supported amnesty.

Bottom line - Walker is CONTROLLED by the powers that are trying to destroy Trump. Fighting the unions is actually ok by those powers as they hate unions too. But impeding the flow of cheap labor is a non-starter for them, and they OBVIOUSLY are not letting Walker have any room on the issue.

I’d say Fiorina is as much a GOPe-owned weathervane of ambition as Walker.

Folks, I have been saying forever that id a candidate looks to the USCOC, that candidate will ultimately back illegals. It is not rocket surgery.

Wanna know a candidate’s future? Look at the positions of his past. Dem or Repub. Thats ALL you need to do.

Romney proved it. Bhoner proved it. Hillary and Barry proved it. EVERY CANDIDATE has a history. Read the damned thing folks.

..this guy struck me as an establishment stealth ...

I think you are on to something because early in his run I remember pundits touting him as a guy acceptable to TEA and GOPe.

And FYI, some countries do not allow dual citizenship. I know that Japan requires citizens with dual citizenship to declare a single citizenship at 18 years old.

He must have given in to GOPe pressure. Rancid Prebush must have told him that he couldn’t have the same position as Trump because they need excuses to cast Trump as an outsider.

“We will need that state in the electoral count.”

******

Well, Rinsing Priapus and Paul Ryan have certainly done nothing to deliver the state to the GOP in the presidential elections. Will see if Walker can in 2016.

“some countries do not allow dual citizenship.”

****

The U.S. officially doesn’t want dual citizenship either. As a practical matter, Uncle Sam wants his pound of tax flesh from expats so it costs time and money to renounce U.S. citizenship after acquiring citizenship elsewhere. In fact, the U.S. nearly quadrupled the renunciation fee recently.

Ugh.

Can we get a candidate on any issue that’s steady?

He’s still not out completely in the way of Jeb Bush, Trump or Carly on my list mainly because of his followup on it with the border issue. Perhaps he needs to release a plan for it?

I dig his medical reform stuff. I thought his immigration ideas were sound, but he’s backed up a bit as if using caution or simply wanting to find out how he can voice things without seeming to follow Trump, an accusation recently used.Though all Trump is doing is repeating blogs, tweets that his aides stalk.

I still would gladly vote for him without cringing.

Just hoping he gets some real conviction or at least displays his plan on immigration which will clarify things.

This is why there's a primary. This allows us to assess each candidate and weed out those who are weak and wobbly.

Walker is done. The country cannot continue down this path and weak, waffling wobblers need to step aside

The US did not allow dual citizenship up until the late 60’s. If you are a dual citizen you are NOT (IMHO) and American citizen.
