Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Wednesday that he "absolutely" supports ending birthright citizenship, suggesting that has been his position for years. "Absolutely. We should end granting automatic birthright citizenship to the children of those who are here illegally," Cruz, who is running for president, said during an interview with the Michael Medved Show. "That has been my position from the very first day of my running for the Senate."
Cruz's comments come after Donald Trump's immigration proposal has sparked a debate among Republican presidential candidates and forced the issue into the media spotlight.
A proposal, released by Trump on Sunday, called for building a wall along the southern border, and changing the 14th Amendment to end so-called "birthright citizenship."
Cruz, who has repeatedly praised Trump throughout his presidential campaign, said Wednesday that the businessman, and 2016 frontrunner, is "forcing the mainstream media to talk about issues they don't want to talk about."
But the Texas Republican also sought to galvanize off of Trump's plan, saying that he has offered "virtually every proponent" in legislation and that he "led the fight against amnesty" in the Senate.
"Jeff and I have fought for many of these legislative proposals side by side," Cruz added, referring to Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who Trump consulted on his immigration proposal.
Heh indeed. Looks like something of a win/win, does it not?
I actually asked Cruz about repealing the 14th Amendment at a meeting when he was running in the Senate primary. He didn’t believe in repealing it then.
lol
Actually, my understanding is that they are NOT on the list under the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1952. However, your thought is right, in that they were explicitly named in documents from the original writer of the 14th Amendment. The original intent of the 14th was CLEARLY, to exclude these from citizenship. It was Congress that created the interpretation that caused the concept of “anchor babies” to emerge.
It’s the only sane thing left to do to stop the alien invasion. Barry has made everything else “legal”.
I saw a Cruz video that was unclear. However, so far, I’ve not known Cruz to be a dissembler.
I’m certain he would not be for “repealing” the 14th amendment— and I’m thinking that PERHAPS he’s distinguishing between immigrants who are lawfully here, and those who are illegally here- from which no benefits can extend.
In fact, every year for over decade there have been bills introduced to eliminate birthright citizenship.
I don’t think Sessions wants VP. He’d be a great attorney general. He probably would be best as majority leader with Cruz or Trump as president. It would certainly be a titanic shift in leadership in the center. Sessions is super tough despite his quiet manner.
Which is a blessing for America...
Trump: Executive Office, lines up his Cabinet...runs it like a business....
Cruz: V. P. Takes care of House and Senate and knows who to pressure to get bills passed
8 years later:
Cruz: POTUS, contintes on with how America is running, selects his cabinet and his running mate...
16 years of Making America Great Again....

simply change (1) to “Any person, wheresoever located, who is a legal resident of the United States”; and (2) to “Any person legally within the United States” and birthright citizenship ends. You can’t undo existing ones, but no new ones for illegals.
NONUTS!!
Be assured that's the case.
It's clear the writers of the 14th amendment never intended for it to apply to illegal aliens.
Nope. Sessions is in a powerful position in the Senate and seems to think that is where he is best positioned to affect the nation. He has his reasons for not throwing his hat in this wide open campaign for the presidency. If he thinks they’re good reasons, then I agree.
TRUZ HA HA HA HA
“Sessions is super tough despite his quiet manner.”
I read his book, and yes he is tough. He is also a very humble and decent man.
What about the legal non-immigrant category? A tourist for example.

I was just arguing with some fellow Freepers that Cruz has never been an advocate for ending this.
I stand corrected.
