Verbal announcement that the previous surgery for a liver tumor has now been diagnosed as a cancer and it has apparently spread beyond the liver.

At age 90, it is unsurprising that someone would contract cancer. As we age, cancer becomes a larger danger because it has time to grow.

He will have access to the best medicine in existence, not the "take two aspirins" and go to "end of life counseling" that is offered to the masses.

The Carter family also has a bad history of being subject to cancer. Survival rates (5 year) are rather bad with local spread giving regional spread a 7% survival rate while distant spreads bring it down to 2%.
I have a low opinion of President Carter’s term in office and I feel that Obama can do little but raise his rating by a notch. Still, “Ask not for whom the bell tolls ... !”

As we age, our immune system, which has to destroy cancer cells and thousands of other pathogens daily, weakens. Cancer should come as no surprise if one lives to 80 or 90. We all die of something.
