Zachary Hammond was on a first date when he was fatally shot by a police officer in his car during a drug bust in South Carolina, his family says.
At the time the 19-year-old was shot and killed, his date, Tori Morton, was eating an ice cream cone, according to the familys attorney, Eric Bland.
Morton, 23, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana all 10 grams of it which, according to police, was the reason undercover agents set up the drug buy.

Amid heightened scrutiny of fatal police shootings across the country, Hammonds death has prompted numerous questions, few answers and almost no national outrage.
More than a week after Hammonds death, his familys attorney says race is almost certainly playing a role in the disconcerting silence. Unlike the victims in the highest-profile police shootings over the past year in cities from Ferguson and Cleveland to North Charleston and Cincinnati Hammond was white.

A “sting” operation can really be an execution.
How about releasing the Video?
Outrage is reserved for Obama’s sons who die while assaulting an officer.
Poor kid was back-shot.
If the kid was black, FReepers would be saying “that’s what you get for hanging out with dopers”.
Interesting, the cop says that the kid tried to run him over, and so he opened fire, but the kid was shot twice in the back. I am not sure how someone could be shot in the back if they were really driving a vehicle pointed at the shooter.
Maybe if he was in reverse? Even then, I would think the driver would be turned halfway around, to look behind him.
Oh Puh-leaze!
We all know whites aren’t human and don’t count as “People”.
This is what the press has been spoon-feeding the sheep for over 50 years.
That’s exactly what this was. An execution for possessing less than 1/2 ounce of pot.
The “war” on drugs has to end. We lost. Time to come up with a new approach that doesn’t involve killing people at will.
This is insanity.
Lots of comments here suggest that the lack of attention is due to the fact that the victim was white.
There’s probably some truth to that. However, I think it is far more significant that the local community, which is majority white, just shrugged, thought “that’s too bad” and did nothing. The activism in local communities in Ferguson, New York and elsewhere, on the other hand, made news when cops killed young, unarmed men in suspicious circumstances.
Don’t forget about the paid vacation.
If their son was killed, why aren’t they leading the outrage? Who are they waiting for? Contact 20 friends and go to city hall or the police department and yell and scream. Losing your son is not a spectator event.
I guess white people don’t get so worked up supporting our petty criminals. Most people see the life of a scofflaw leading to nothing worth celebrating.
A hood is as a hood does.
His color is irrelevant.
No, I am not likely to go to South Carolina, get high on drugs and encourage other hoods to "burn the *itch down!"
The moron got what he deserved.
The final decision as to how things would end was entirely his! Unless anyone plans to prove that the cop arbitrarily just shot him.
Now let’s see how long it takes to get the video of this murder released.
According to the understood rules in a civilized society, that trite opinion ignores the decision of the person who fails to take the safe path. Usually the 'suicide by cop' imbecile.
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
What did the police officer tell him to do, and to confirm if one does not immediately comply with ANYTHING an officer says you feel killing the person is justified?
Yes because we can always believe what the cops say.
Driving toward the officer my A$$!
Applause coming from #blacklivesmatter.
