Zachary Hammond was on a first date when he was fatally shot by a police officer in his car during a drug bust in South Carolina, his family says.
At the time the 19-year-old was shot and killed, his date, Tori Morton, was eating an ice cream cone, according to the familys attorney, Eric Bland.
Morton, 23, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana all 10 grams of it which, according to police, was the reason undercover agents set up the drug buy.

Amid heightened scrutiny of fatal police shootings across the country, Hammonds death has prompted numerous questions, few answers and almost no national outrage.
More than a week after Hammonds death, his familys attorney says race is almost certainly playing a role in the disconcerting silence. Unlike the victims in the highest-profile police shootings over the past year in cities from Ferguson and Cleveland to North Charleston and Cincinnati Hammond was white.

Guess they forgot about that...
oh, the horror!
Wrong skin color.
wrong color - ain’t no big deal regardless. One less cracker per our media and president
Call back when you’re black.
Haven’t you heard? White lives don’t matter.
#whiteboylivesdontmatter.
Self defense...Case closed...The fact that the kid was shot in the back and the side has no bearing on it...If only he'd just done what the police officer said...All the other reasons people give for justifying police shootings of unarmed citizens.
Because he was pigmentally challenged.
Oh, go to the article and look at the snarky race baiting going on there.
What can I say, Ben?
The “News” media somehow let this one slip between the cracks.
Obama will not be there to say “If I had a son...”
Al Sharpton will not show up there.
Soros will not send his team of “spontaneous” rioters there.
The US “Justice” dept will not arrive to do an extensive “investigation.”
TV networks will not continuously run a photo of the “unarmed teen” when he was 10 years old.
Duke University “professors” in ‘Justice’ and ‘Peace’ will not cite this when they appear as experts on NPR.
Obama will not send three White House representatives to the kid’s funeral.
There will never be a street in Paris or Belgium named after this kid.
Just another death in the War on Drugs.
In a statement Wednesday, Coroner Karl E. Addis said he does not know how Hammonds body was positioned at the time he was shot.
He was on his knees in the front seat facing backwards driving toward the officer when shot. Can there be any doubt?
Because the media doesn’t care one bit about White lives.
I’m sorry for this family’s grief. However, if Lurch had a son, he would resemble this kid. One should never drive toward an officer when they don’t want you moving at all.
Perhaps, but cops should really stop trying to stop people from driving away by getting in front of their cars on foot. Some people will just run them the hell over. Big time drug bust for a few grams of MJ hardly seems worth anyone dying over, on either side.
If the kid was black, there would be outrage whether the shooting was justified or not.
How else are they going to get in on all these fun shoots? They give themselves instant exoneraion and possibly know suspect confusion makes continued vehicle movement possible.
And the black folks tweeting are finding ways to criticize white folks about this shooting, too.
I hope the family sues the city blind.
This cop should have already been charged with murder. Just like the Cincinnati cop.
Take a kids life over less than 1/2 an ounce of pot.
$10 Says the cop who tried to stop him was in plain clothes, and was part of the bunch that had just orchestrated the buy.
You’re a 19 year old that just bought some weed, probably not in a great neighborhood, with your girlfriend and some guy jumps in front of your car and tries to get you to stop? Right
The cops had to have his tag. Be sitting at his Mom and Dads house after he comes home, and arrest him there.
What a load of pure BS.
